Speculation about new printer announcements

Just had a thought. I wonder if this is the a1 style solution and theyll make an ams for the upper model. I did hear somewhere that a much better model is in the works.

nobody knows, yet. we shall wait and see

The flaw in my diversified approach to 3D printersā€“having different printers from different manufacturers to cover different specialized use casesā€“is having to calibrate filaments separately for each of them. In contrast to that, having the one printer that can do it allā€¦ means a lot less calibration. I was tempted to pick up some inexpensive printers over Black Friday, but now I think Iā€™ll wait to see whether Bambuā€™s next printer in 1Q25 is the one printer that can do it all. And if it isā€¦ I may consolidate!

I like my flashforge adventurer 5m Pro, but that X is an abominationā€¦ Wouldnā€™t even consider one with exposed spools. Iā€™m sure itā€™s appealing to print farms.

I really want to take one of these apart now. Its so small. Would be awesome if its universal/klipper based

Your argument wasnā€™t bad. You should have let it stay. (just saying)

I finally got the new Contact feature working for setting z-height automatically. Quite honestly, I think the hobbits in the Lord of Rings had an easier task than doing this mod. Nonetheless, itā€™s a milestone, and I think I may be getting near the light at the end of the tunnel, when I can finally start using it to do real prints.

Just a quick aside: I knew just barely enough linux to get by in doing this upgrade, but for anyone totally unfamiliar with linux, Iā€™d say learn some basics first before attempting this, or you will be lost. The Quick Start guide is too out of date to be useable. There is no concise set of directions for doing this upgrade. Itā€™s more like a bunch of clues that were scattered like leaves in a hurricane, and you have to just hope you find them all.

One of the improvements in the Creality K2 Plus that has gotten little attention is its use of FOC brushless motors instead of steppers. Maybe thatā€™s what they had to do in order to get the 30,000mm/sec2 acceleration? Or was it simply the cheaper way to get it? I thought Peopoly, with their linear motors, might have gotten more, but Peopoly is ā€œonlyā€ claiming 22,000mm/sec2. For reference, X1C claims 20,000mm/sec2. Does the extra acceleration really translate into faster prints, or are there other bottlenecks standing in the way?

Ive come to the conclusion that the peopoly is mostly gimick. For smaller prints, acceleration is very important for actual speed. Large prints with long walls, not as much.

During the work week, i only get 2 hours a day at home(not asleep) but ive made progress on the voron. Also recieved my beacon in the mail. Yes thats another kit-kat lol. breakfast of champions.

@NeverDie What printer is that?

You mean the one in the youtube video? Good question! Iā€™ll ask and get back to you on that.

This one.

Definitely Jessie is hungry and looking for a food printer ā€¦ Good eyes, Jessie, but that wonā€™t get you a food printerā€¦yet :upside_down_face:

waiting for these pizza vending machines i was promised lol. kinda looks like a vzbot? Or did I fall for another AI image?

Hereā€™s the genuine official answer from Dalegaard, who works at Annex Engineering: ā€œAnnex K3, early internal beta version with screw Zā€

If it does print (eatable) food, definitely Iā€™m a taker :upside_down_face:

Found some info on github.

Project Goals:

  • Fully Enclosed Design or Open Air

  • 2020 Frame Members

  • Build Volume of ~180^3 mm

  • Direct Drive Extruder (Sherpa Mini, Sherpa Micro, and Folded Ascender supported)

  • Shortest Belt Paths Possible, 4 Motors, 2 Per X, 2 Per Y Axis

  • Moving Bed

  • MGN9C Rails (XYZ and Cross)

  • 9mm Belts on XYZ

  • Maxwell Coupling on Bed Frame

  • NEMA17 Motors XYZ

  • LDO Stepper Motors (Optional but Recommended)

  • Minimal Printed Parts (ABS/ASA Required)

  • 32 bit controller standard (Single Fysetc Spider, or Fysetc S6 with expander configurations provided, others at your own leasure) - Klipper Highly Recommended

  • 24V Power Standard, 48V Power Optional via the ANNEX Constellation Series of Boards

  • AC Heated Bed, MIC6 Plate with Magnetic Build Surface or Glass on Thermal Pads

  • Supports many hotends

  • Enclosed Printers are passively heated and only designed around an average 65C chamber temperature, K3 is not intended to be a High Temperature printer. It was designed to excell at common engineering materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS and some PC/Nylon Blends

Got a care package from clearview plastics today. The panels for the ratrig. Bambu panel for size comparison.Absolutely massive, but they robbed me of .33mm. Unless it measures like U.S. lumber

Regarding the Annex printer:

What are the unique features? To me itā€™s primarily the MIC6 heated bed and the cross motion system. It doesnā€™t say how thick that build plate is, but judging from the video itā€™s very thick. Iā€™m guessing 8-12.5mm thick? The toolhead looks to be very large with lots of cooling on it. That suggests possibly a high flow rate, but itā€™s also going to to slow acceleration, as compared to the CPAP cooling that others seem to be gravitating toward.

The direct drive extruder looks to be very different. Very industrial looking. It says Sherpa Mini or Sherpa Micro.

The optional 48v power would provide plenty of pep. I think itā€™s inevitable thatā€™s the next frontier. Two motors per X and Y axis. You donā€™t see that very often. Lots of power, lots of acceleration, lots of control possible. In theory anyway.

OK, so now we know what it is, but the real question is: how good is it? How fast? How good are the prints, etc. And of course, the inevitable question, why pick it over a Bambu? Iā€™m guessing: some sort of customized vertical integration in the commercial sector that wants/demands local support and service, for some kind of industrial application that need high reliability.

What do you all think?

I wouldnt pick it over a bambu. I think its just a parts bom printer like a voron but tiny The only thing that looks good to me is the tool head setup. Otherwise, im not sure what you gain with so many linear rails lol. And no extrusions on the linear rails makes me think they would flex a little. It looks like somebody had smoked to much that day and had a ton of spare parts sitting around

Must be a reason. WAG: maybe so it fits inside a 6mm slot?

Keep the photos coming. Itā€™s fun to watch your progress.
