If I had 4k for a Prusa XL, and got 500 off, I could buy a train locomotive for my collection. I could buy the lego castle and have enough left over to take my family out to dinner. I could purchase a much needed second 4tb external drive, and still have money left over for some extra cables I need. I could buy a space mouse, and have money left over for a fridge full of cheese cake. So, I’m not sure what difference you think it doesn’t make, but I guess that depends on perspective. That’s also assuming the top end configuration. Maybe I’d use that extra 500 to dump up from the base configuration to a 2 head configuration.
Regardless, I’ve prefer a discount on a Prusa machine over a Creality. I see Creality machines discounted to nothing all the time, and I still would not touch them. I would actually have an interest in a Prusa machine, especially if I got a discount as such.
I was taking a cheap shot at Creality. The reality is though I don’t really care for their products, or Creality as a company. I think they are only even putting some level of effort into their products now because Bambu caused them to have an existential crisis. They realized they couldn’t just keep shoveling 3d printers into the market, like we’re some sort of landfill for their trash. When people realize for not much more they could get an A1, or A1 Mini, and it’d perform so much better. That pain didn’t have to be a part of the 3d printing experience.
If the K2 hits the mark or not though, I don’t know. I haven’t found myself finding much interest in finding out. After a year of people talking about all these Bambu killers, only to see them kind of muddle out. Even beyond that though, what I’m looking for in a product is more than just the printer itself. It’s the whole of what Bambu offers, from the printer, to the slicer, to the model repository. To me, the real product, is the ecosystem.
So at the end of the day, what I want, what I’m looking for, just isn’t what creality provides. It’s why even a 500 dollar off coupon on a k2 is worthless.
A Prusa XL though. That’s a printer from a company with a great reputation. It’s a unique printer in a lot of ways, and just sparks me from that curiosity and tinkering side of things. I love designing, and have a focus towards designing for the consumer side of 3d printing. The XL doesn’t fit within that, but it does tickle my interest still, to the extent that totally a 500 dollar off coupon would be worth it.
