Speculation about new printer announcements

I’ve never heard of trade-ups like this being offered before:

Is this purely a CES promotion, or is it available more broadly than that? Anyone know? I also wonder whether almost any 3D printer would qualify for the full $500 credit, or if only a truly exotic and expensive 3D printer would qualify. Anyone on the forum here actually at CES in person, either today or sometime before it winds down? Maybe stop by and ask? I have a number of different machines that I’d be happy to trade for a $500 credit.

I wonder if they would be willing to accept (or would be considering as acceptable) Bambu machines trade-ins for their K2 Plus Combo… (just wondering…for now :smiley:)

According to: Creality Debuts Creality Hi | Trade-in for K2 Plus Combo | Creality CES 2025 the $500 offer is good for all brands, but it doesn’t say whether it would hold for any machine or only the premier models. Maybe they don’t even care? I was on the fence regarding the K2, but a $500 credit could make it an easy decision, given the generally favorable reviews.

Back in th day it used to be that I could sell used equipment on ebay for a fair price, but IMHO these days ebay has become non-functional for sellers, who can too easily be stretched over a barrel by buyers. As a result, I’m not aware of any effective venues for getting a fair price. Definitely not craigs list, unless I just want to blow something out and have it be gone at 10 cents on the dollar.

Not going to drop my X1C (yet), as I have built a respectable stockpile of spares for it, and expect to have it running for some time after Bambu’s end of life support. But I’m considering the option of, eventually, acquiring a K2 Plus Combo sometime in Q3 or Q4 this year if it proves reliable and provides quality printing… still waiting to see what Bambu is launching in Q1, and if it would be worth the price they’ll charge for it.

It’s a weird offer, but I imagine it will sunset when CES winds down. Not clear whether you have to have your trade-in physically at CES, or could mail it in, or…? I assume they would just turn-around and sell any trade-ins they received, or else junk them. I can’t imagine they’d want to keep them. Maybe they’d even be content with some kind of proof of destruction, as it would save them the disposal effort.

Looks like it was an in person thing at CES and they had limited amounts of vouchers to hand out.

I guess it’s too late. According to your link, it ended January 10. And evidently CES officially ended on January 11.

The wording on the trade-in offer that you linked was rather weird. “Trade in a printer for a chance to win up to $500 in discounts”? That wording is so non-commital it sounds like almost a guaranteed disappointment.

I’m not sure that deal is as good as it sounds. I mean, it’s Creality. Even if you got the 500 dollars off, you’d still end up with a creality printer.

Man, that would be killer if Prusa ran that promo though.

Ya, I feels like a last ditch effort. Oh how the mighty have fallen. I can’t see how Creality isn’t hurting. They haven’t had much to offer in quite some time.

500 less from 4k + for an XL won’t make a difference

Have you already used the K2 plus? Looks pretty solid to me

Yup. And I’d say it’s harder than ever to find a high quality, objective review of a newly released creality printer–at least in the early days and weeks of it coming onto the market, I guess because the first few dozens (or hundreds) of new machines are earmarked for shills. By design that means anyone who might post an objective review won’t have any meaningful access until possibly much later.

If you didn’t roll any of those combinations did you have to carry your old printer around for the rest of the day at CES? Hopefully no one brought a Neptune 3 Max lol…

The way I read it, the house wins and you get nothing. You lose your “trade-in” as it’s only a chance to win “up to” the dollar amount of a discount. It’s Vegas, Baby.

And Crealitys using loaded dice… lol

If I had 4k for a Prusa XL, and got 500 off, I could buy a train locomotive for my collection. I could buy the lego castle and have enough left over to take my family out to dinner. I could purchase a much needed second 4tb external drive, and still have money left over for some extra cables I need. I could buy a space mouse, and have money left over for a fridge full of cheese cake. So, I’m not sure what difference you think it doesn’t make, but I guess that depends on perspective. That’s also assuming the top end configuration. Maybe I’d use that extra 500 to dump up from the base configuration to a 2 head configuration.

Regardless, I’ve prefer a discount on a Prusa machine over a Creality. I see Creality machines discounted to nothing all the time, and I still would not touch them. I would actually have an interest in a Prusa machine, especially if I got a discount as such.

I was taking a cheap shot at Creality. The reality is though I don’t really care for their products, or Creality as a company. I think they are only even putting some level of effort into their products now because Bambu caused them to have an existential crisis. They realized they couldn’t just keep shoveling 3d printers into the market, like we’re some sort of landfill for their trash. When people realize for not much more they could get an A1, or A1 Mini, and it’d perform so much better. That pain didn’t have to be a part of the 3d printing experience.

If the K2 hits the mark or not though, I don’t know. I haven’t found myself finding much interest in finding out. After a year of people talking about all these Bambu killers, only to see them kind of muddle out. Even beyond that though, what I’m looking for in a product is more than just the printer itself. It’s the whole of what Bambu offers, from the printer, to the slicer, to the model repository. To me, the real product, is the ecosystem.

So at the end of the day, what I want, what I’m looking for, just isn’t what creality provides. It’s why even a 500 dollar off coupon on a k2 is worthless.

A Prusa XL though. That’s a printer from a company with a great reputation. It’s a unique printer in a lot of ways, and just sparks me from that curiosity and tinkering side of things. I love designing, and have a focus towards designing for the consumer side of 3d printing. The XL doesn’t fit within that, but it does tickle my interest still, to the extent that totally a 500 dollar off coupon would be worth it.

It was (still is) my first 3d printer…and I did order it with dual heads and have since upgraded it to 5. It does have its advantages over the X1C, but also some drawbacks as well.

sure i understand where your coming from, i don’t have / never had a creality, so don’t know for sure, but i did watch Aurora Tech review it, and it looked good to me, so was wondering if you had different first hand experience with it.

i’m actually open to trying other brands, i have 4 bambus, so of course i love them, but i get curious, so i’m already waiting on the Kobra S1 combo (will only get it in march), and thinking about the Core One

and of course I would also love the XL as that is one of the most interesting printers on the market, but the price tag with the 5 tool heads is just something i can’t convince myself to go for
