SUNLU ASA curling and poor surface quality on Bambu P2S – running out of ideas

Hi everyone,

Its my first time trying to print ASA and I am struggling severely. I am trying to print semi-small object with SUNLU ASA on my Bambu Lab P2S.

The main issue is curling and ugly, melted-looking edges, especially around curved overhangs, mounting holes, and small features. The rest of the model prints reasonably well. What is weird about this problem is that the issue with curling appears only on first couple (around 20) layers, then the print looks just fine.

Sometimes the nozzle appears to hit the curled edges, causing the model to detach from its supports. (issue was resolved by changing supports from snug to normal)

Setup:

  • Bambu Lab P2S, 0.4 mm nozzle

  • SUNLU ASA, 260–270°C

  • Textured PEI, 100°C bed

  • Closed enclosure, Heating Mode

  • 0.12 / 0.20 mm layer height

  • Model tilted approximately 45° for strength

What I’ve already tried:

  • Different part cooling settings (0–50%)

  • Fan Tower – 60% gave the best overhangs, but increased warping on the actual model

  • Much slower and faster overhang speeds (10–60 mm/s)

  • Increased minimum layer time and added a separate cooling tower

  • Tree, Normal, Snug and Default supports

  • Raising the entire model 10 mm above the bed

  • Different layer heights (0.12 / 0.20 mm)

  • Changing model orientation from 45° to 33° (made things worse)

Best result so far: 270°C, 100°C bed, 0.20 mm layers, 100 mm/s outer walls, 150 mm/s inner walls, Normal/Default supports and approximately 50% cooling with forced overhang cooling disabled.

This configuration finally completed the print without major warping, but the surface quality is still terrible.

Has anyone experienced something similar with ASA on the P2S?

I’m starting to suspect heat accumulation, extrusion issues, or something related to the slicer’s handling of curved outer walls.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attached photos (my latest print with 45° and G-code.

The 45°angle print isnt the "best version but its one of the newest that I printed as I

Ski helmet adapter 45° 270° C.3mf (689.9 kB)

Ski helmet adapter 33°.3mf (661.9 kB)

threw away the previous ones.

Thanks!
