I will continue to do the coding myself on my projects, though. I don’t learn anything if someone or something else writes my code. I’m also trying to not expand my AI footprint. It imposes huge burdens on people where the data centers are located and represents crippling hits on power and water infrastructure.
And as an aside, if anyone wants a pretty wild blast from the past where science fiction really has become reality with the extremely powerful LLMs, give “Colossus: The Forbin Project” a watch. The tech is museum quality but some of the plot points are spookily accurate now - recursive self improvement, solving long-standing math superstar achievements, probing/hacking other computer systems, developing their own code/language, threatening and gathering information on researchers, etc. It’s big hit after hit, jaw drop after jaw drop.
Hopefully the next book/movie to come so true isn’t “Terminator”. ![]()
