The intended purpose of boost is to let the users, not the moderators, judge which models are more valuable. They’re for you to boost your favourite models.
They are not intended to be spent on specific models or specific groups of models.

There is no specific intended use or purpose at this time, it’s purely based on user preference. Which means, your use case is correct, and someone who may think the opposite as you is also correct.
You could use yours to reward low popularity models and that’s fine. Or you could use it to reward someone who happens to have a popular model and that’s fine. The same logic could be applied to both use cases since the more popular a model is, the less rewards it earns from downloads.
A user with 10 models that each have 100 downloads (including makes) earns 990 points, equal to 2 $40 gift cards.
A user with a single more popular model with 1000 downloads would earn 491 points, equal to a single $40 gift card.
So I would ask, why would the less popular models be more worthy of a boost? At the same time, why would the more popular one be more worthy?
IMO just reward the designers/models you like, don’t base it off their popularity.
You could also say there’s incentive to not even use the boosts. If no one uses them, they could possibly (as unlikely as it may be) divert some of that budget they talked about back to regular download rewards. Not going to happen, but just saying. Try not to overthink it.
You can only boost individual models. Not the Maker (Designer) directly.
Because the model is a replacement part for my washing machine or car which costs $30 (or may not even be available). One download and print of such a model it worth 1000 downloads of yet another filament clip and provides vastly more incentive to own a 3D printer.
The same for models which are less popular because they take a lot of time and/or filament to print.
Bit of a confusing system. I boosted some models I really liked. Still not sure I fully understand this new concept.
But since the new changes I’ve noticed my models are getting about half or less rewards than before.
I think it was inevitable that Bambu cut us down sooner or later.
My point was that whether the model for your washing machine part has 0 downloads or 10000 downloads. It provided you with the same amount of value and is just as worthy of a boost regardless of popularity.
That’s not what he’s saying, he saying they’re not intended for to only be used on specific models or types of models. As in they’re not intended to only be used on “niche” models, functional models, or models under X amount of downloads, etc. It is up to the user to decide.
You can decide based on the maker if you choose. While true the boost option is only available on the model page, and if a user has no models they can’t receive any boosts. However, if you see a maker who you think deserves a boost, even if you don’t actually have a need or want for any of their models. Boosting any of their models is a direct boost to that maker.
Ok, thanks for the clarification! It’s probably due to the different language usage (English → German → Saxon). The designer has the boost in their account, but the boost only applies to one object at a time. You have to specify an object to give the boost to. Which annoys me personally. But I guess that was the idea, maybe it’s the right thing to do, so that the designer knows exactly what they got the boost for.
I have received a couple of boosts on my designs. It is nice that a couple of people did appreciate my design enough to boost it. But the trickling of points I was getting on those models before this new system greatly surpasses what I get now. I went from a few points a week (20-100 pts) to nothing. This new system definitely killed all motivation for me to try to enter any more contents. I am certain that I will never win any contests, but the potential points gained by exposure is enough to barely get a gift card and some more filament with some of my designs. This is what gave me some incentive to join in. But now it doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I do appreciate those that do like and boost my designs and am thankful. But I do not expect to earn enough points to get anything anymore.
It is written that after 1 week you will receive a Boost to donate. Since the system entered I have not received any Boosts to donate other than the first ones that were given during this system step. I download templates, print them directly from the printer, comment, rate them, but I no longer receive any Boosts to donate.Does the same happen to anyone?
I will give boosts to encourage designers to post useful models that will never get 10000 downloads. I have several camera/lens specific models I designed for myself that I doubt more than a few tens of MW users would be interested in. The boost system has made it more likely that I will bother posting them.
And you can do that, like I said. It’s my entire point that each of us can do whatever we want with them, use them on whatever models we want, or not use them at all. There is no designated purpose, if it makes you want to share more, great.
This is how I am using them. When I find a design I want/need and it prints great, I give them a boost. I used my first two boosts immediately because there were designs I printed that were great and I remembered them.
The fact that you halved the points is not a problem. It’s not a problem that you’ve added boosts. But I feel screwed that they have a download limit. My models are not at the top, but are loaded (confirmation from some users), but it doesn’t count anymore. That’s where the scam lies in this system. If Bambu (MakerWorld) doesn’t want to spend so many vouchers anymore, why didn’t they increase the points for the vouchers from 524 to 1048, everything would be much easier. No, there was a system added to penalise small designers. It’s not fun anymore.
I like the boost system but I have been seeing top tier desingers asking for their patreons to give them all of their boosts. It is pretty upsetting seeing this behavior.
Et erat demonstrandum.
This was already clear before the first $1 giftcard boost was given to first design / model.
Some beg in front of the church, others on the Internet…
Still have 4 boosts awaiting to basically expire… @MakerWorld
Because you can’t be bothered to give them away?
As a “Designer” do you find yourself going out of your way printing other designers models?
I stated before if were following what makerworld intended “boosts” to be used for then that means models I’ve printed that I feel deserved a boost in recognition… I make my own things
