Nah, no worries. Didn’t meant to say that at all. Creativity is what makes me still be here on Makerworld. Some of my designs come from my mind while others i just extrude some walls of a known vector file and call it a day.
Fortunately i only had one guy that completely copied one of my designs but in the end he got “rekt” because i had hidden a small logo in the extrusion walls that can only be seen if you know where it is. It was an easy task to have it removed.
I don’t get it how can @MakerWorld let some people get away.
This guy with this model:
He claims he created the model but in fact the model is a ripoff of the one on printables here:
How do i know? because on early 2023 i printed several of those for my kids.
How to check? Download both and resize the one from printables to 90% and check it out. It even comes with the same problem of the original model that are some blobs on the base of the print and most people, like me, cut a few mm of it so it prints perfect.
Reporting makes no diference because it’s still up and getting downloads as we speak.
I really don’t get how do people with 21k downloads have the necessity to steal models.
The odd thing about those pokemon is I don’t think those should be “fan art”. Those look identical to art used by Nintendo and they really are snippy about their IP. Different subject but, well if it’s an issue for Nintendo then it shouldn’t be up.
They get away with it because they can. And once they do they gain leverage and use it to keep them up.
I found one person, who was simply copying work from a printables and thingiverse profile whole cloth. Images, copy, everthing.
Problem is I had to jump through many hoops before I got to a point where I could confidently accuse them, but I didn’t feel I’d have the evidence to really nail them. Well, not without contacting the creators. That leads me to another point.
I didn’t contact the creators because I was lazy. Not really lazy just had enough on my plate to find a solid reason not too. Complacency was my sin there, and I’m not alone. That is the real reason they do it, and get away with it.
I still have mine, running on klipper, but she’s only gathering dust now. the only complaint I have about it is that the force sensor is not super reliable.
I’ll probably try to convert it with a pen tool a cuter tool for the fun ^^.
That’s main the problem. Other than laziness it requires real commitment and time to submit reports.
For example, here I’ve only reported two of “his” models but I’m pretty sure that all “his” Pokémon are mostly stolen from Patrickart. I just don’t have the time to report them all.
For someone like me who doesn’t have the skills or portfolio to earn points en mase, I’d take time out of my day to scour looking for the abusers for reimbursement.
There’s a confict of interest there though. I’d have to say it’d be bad to award points to someone who reports if that person is uploading as well. However, BL would have the last say in taking down a profile/model.
Those that worked that way would become real unpopular real quick to some.
So I mentioned the day after posting a model on Makerworld that I’d seen my model posted the very next day on maker online. I signed up and posted there, reporting the other model.
This guy appears to steal several models. They’re using a reverse image from whatever they grab. A P1S nozzle wiper on the wrong side and a hygrometer holder showing backwards readings.
It annoys me that I have to even worry about this. Like I have to regularly search other platforms for my stuff to make sure no one else posted it there, or I have to try and be diligent about posting stuff everywhere, which is tiring in it’s own right. I am not so bright eyed about humanity today.
What really annoys me the most about it is because this stuff is free for anyone to download, so it just feels extra cheap and slimy to have someone post your stuff elsewhere, claiming it as their own.
What can one even do People will keep being people.
I guess on the flip side, there’s all y’all here that regularly report shady things. I know some of you get kind of exhausted, but I do rather commend you guys/gals for doing it. May not be able to stop everything everywhere, but it’s a gentle reminder that the whole of the community isn’t so shady.
Honestly, this is why I don’t share my creations online. I’m not interested in selling them. I’d prefer to have a system in place to give them away preventing some a$%#%@# ripping my work away.
Hard work doing the job of reporting them, isn’t it?
Compiling everything, cross-checking, making sure you know which came first, and if the license allows the copy and so on.
I had far more energy for it at the start, but, having our overlords ignore so many obvious issues, it becomes difficult to keep banging your head against a brick wall.
I do still try though, my health is at a very low point right now.
