This has been an issue for me as long as I have been viewing content in this forum. There is like a cadre of individuals who seek to dominate the discussion. They will flood the thread with their narrative and become abusive and insultive towards those who don’t align with their often faulty narratives. In gang-like behavior, once one of them gets going, the others with happily pile on with snide remarks and their own silly takes. I think they, and people like them, do far more harm to the reputation of the 3D printing community then whatever gain they think they are gaining in such behavior.
One of the greatest problems with living in a polite society, is that in the name of civility, we are obliged to pretend that some behaviors aren’t as destructive as they clearly are. We are taught to forgive with a smile and move on. Yet such attitudes is what allows the worse among us to ply their trade.
When I first got a 3D printer, the first thing I thought was, “What can I make?” The thoughts that came to mind tended to be the possibility of creating complex assemblies without having to painstakingly create each individual part. With my 3D printers I can design the parts and within hours have parts waiting to be assembled. But then, wasn’t that the original promise of 3D printing, having a desktop rapid prototyping machine. I stumbled onto Bambu Lab printers with their multicolor printing capabilities, which led me naturally to Maker World. My first thoughts were that a lot of the content tended to be of low effort designs. There was a lot of good stuff, but most was low effort quality.
Then, as time went on, again and again in the narratives of the newsletters that Bambu occasionally releases, it seemed to me that they were trying to encourage people away from the low effort models, to more sophisticated, more useful models. The fact that low effort models collected points as easily as more complex models, was disheartening to many designers. Bambu seemed intent on correcting that inequality among other things. I can look back through messages in the System tab in Maker World and see where the changes were being made that some are still complaining about. Those who are crying the loudest, tend to be those involved in the type of behaviors that Maker World has been saying it was going to crack down on. It is very difficult to feel sympathy for those who game the system, only to get caught and face the consequences.
Biggest issue is that people can be influenced by wrong and right. Even if you are technically right and you prove with facts whats going on. They will simply try to remove you because they “dont like” your opinion, sadly.
Honestly I’m sick of the behaviour as well from the group of same individuals. It’s made the bambulab forums a toxic place. And this is my opinion after lurking on here for a while.
It didnt become a toxic place. It became their place thats the difference. After checking some stats and topics i saw they wont change and keep doing it. Simple.
When has ignoring a problem made it go away? When has ignoring bad behavior made it better? Maybe if we just ignore all the crime and corruption in the world it will all disappear.
Take for example, this guy:
He never has anything constructive to add to a discussion, never has anything intelligent to say. Even though I rarely respond to these types of guys, their behavior never changes. It is as if it is baked into the demographic.
Very typical for the likes of you. Pretending to br offended by anything that you disagree with and calling it “negativity”, while desperately trying to make a big deal out of it to gain some attention.. In the end its just a projection, because lets face it. you are the one being negative here.
Think of it this way: those people have no life outside of this forum. If they were busy building things they wouldn’t have time to meander around to troll.
There are always the helpers and non-helpers. It is best to leverage the forums to find the helpers by asking for insights on technical issues and avoiding opinions that touch the politics of 3D printing — yep, any organization of people, real or virtual will have its internal politics.
Well if you watch it clearly, characteristics are the same. They are more on the forum than on makerworld itself but thats not in a negative aspect. Some of them 100% know what they are talking about technical stuff, know everything from the printer and know every datasheet possible. What baffles me most is that those same people are making their own rules and want everyone to follow them. Just because they dont deal the same opinion like you have. As an example i would never tell directly people “to ignore 1 person” just because i want it that way. Thats not even remotely close to a discussion between 2 individuals. I even have screenshots of prove of the behaviour and they will still argue thats okay.
To flag a post and report something because i dont like it, i mean even Jon says its not supposed to be like that. They still do it and want to do it that way.
They are more hours on the forum per day than any of us, so let them have it and make their own rules.
What? It was 21 Minutes from your first post to the second one.
There was one incident: your post was aggressive and off-topic, so it was moved to a different thread.
No? I wrote Jon on a private message and notified him about the topic we are discussion. He looked into it and moved it. Thats a false claim my friend again.
Furthermore, you’re ignoring the fact that flagging a post doesn’t actually accomplish anything at first, because a moderator always has to make the decision - and they do a great job, which you, unfortunately, are unfairly downplaying.and just to add: We’re all - myself included - just users - no special rights; the moderators are the ones who make the decisions, and they’re doing a great job, which you, unfortunately, don’t acknowledge.
Thats not comin from me thats from your friend CincinnatiDesigns so is this going towards him?
He literally says to flag things because you dont like it. I mean he also says we are self moderating. Doe it mean he doesnt respect the work of the moderators? These are all screenshots from things that are black and white and 0 AI generated. I mean even Jon tells him not to do it.
So im sitting here still waiting for proof from all your claims Retro that you did against me.
Not very honest to take a post out of context. Since you didn’t notice, I agreed with Jon. Ill take it that I was not specific enough.
“if there is something that you dont like, flag it” but use reason to deduce why you do not like a post. Do you not like it because it is overly rude or because you disagree with it? Did someone start throwing insults towards multiple users or did they share a controversial opinion?
Anyway, the more you flag things that are not against the guidelines, the less your flags mean. All a flag does is directly point moderation towards a post.
Honestly, I still believe in the self moderation idea. The point of that exchange was that we do not need a bunch of moderators constantly scanning to find anything that might remotely break the rules. Most of the forums I read do not have anything close to the moderation we have here, but the people are less likely to get into petty arguments with each other.
Some serious self reflection is needed here. Youve only been active in posting for a few weeks and almost every single post you have made has been overly negative.
This because it’s the most important point - one that some people still haven’t grasped in this discussion - and it really needs to be posted a thousand times. There is always a person - in this case, the team of moderators - behind the scenes who makes unbiased decisions, and so far, the team has done an excellent job.
These are the people who keep things running for us - without them, none of this would be possible. We have to give them credit for that - a lot of people don’t realize that this is a community forum, not primarily a company forum.
Virtually nothing is censored or deleted in this forum except for spam and insults, unlike MakerWorld, which is, after all, run by a company, Bambu.
I just repeated what Cincinnatti said, when you made a claim against me. Now you defuse it and want to redirect it at me. Atleast you proved my point that as long as you belong to the group " you are right". Anways im not gonna write anything anymore in this forum because after linking the screenshots and still claiming its me not your friend proves where we are going.
Now you got your peace from me and thank you for proving my point. Salute.
The only groups we have here are constructive people and non constructive people.
You do some cool stuff, I encourage you to share what you have done and talk about the process. You’ll get a better opinion of the people here doing that instead of jumping into topics about points.
Like the my topic that you commented in earlier, or your contribution to the topic about recharging desiccant.
