Hello everyone.
So yes, I am compared to most of you here a newbie to 3D printing. I just bought my P1S during the anniversary sale, but I confess that I am already obsessed with it and with 3D printing.
So I have been printing happily along every day and night, learning and learning and learning when alas my printer went haywire and just started sortve drooling out the filament rather than creating a print. I noticed it right away and stopped the print job and went about troubleshooting.
So the first thing I did was to calibrate the printer.
The printer seemed fine so I went on to check the AMS and there I found an issue.
I was able to remove and reseat the filament from 3 of the spools, but the last one I could not get out, so on closer inspection I noticed that the little yellow/orange gear which on the other three was in the down position, was up on this one, so stuck there holding tight to the filament which is a BambuLab matte filiament.
When I push the release, it does not release so the filament is stuck. So I went on youtube of course to learn how to resolve this issue and found a video explaining what to do which involves removing the AMS from the housing to get to the tube on the bottom.
So I have always been reasonably good with technology, at least those things I am familiar with like computers, cell phones, cable boxes, tablets, etc, but of course this is new tech to me and I am not familiar with it so just learning as I go.
Everything else I have had to TS on the P1S so far has been pretty easy peazy, (maybe I have just been lucky? granted I have not had it that long yet?) but the trouble I am running into now is that I unscrewed the hex screws on the left and right but I can not seem to lift the unit out of the housing. I am sure I must be missing something, but I have watched several videos now and I just can’t seem to get it. I try pulling on the left and right … not sure what you call them, they are like the walls between the spools (obviously I took the spools out and unplugged the AMS) and then at the back, there is supposed to be something to press to release it, but I can not see what that is. Some of the videos indicate that you are supposed to remove the tube connected to the backand some dont. I am not sure how to get that out either, it does not just come out easily.
So I am sorry if I come across as really naive and or stupid, I think this is one of those things that once I learn how to do it once, I will be good moving forward.
I should also say that I do not have a lot of strength in my hands but I don’t want to force anything?
Thank you for reading my post.
Really looking forward to getting the unit free from the housing so I can move forward on to the next TS step (which I hope will resolve this issue lol)
I have a lot of things to print and just ordered a bunch of new filament!
:-o
Thank you all for your responses. The trouble I am having is either that I do not have the hand Strength to push on the thing you need to push to release the tube, or I am pushing the wrong thing. It looks So easy in all the videos, but on my system I cant seem to move it. I am attaching a picture of what I see, maybe you can tell me What Im missing. Thank you.
Did you get the stuck roll of filament out yet? To remove that one you have to turn off your printer. The printer locks the motors during the “pull back failed” error. I assume you have this error cos it’s the #1 thing that locks up the filament. After turning off, check the buffer (grey thingy with springs) at the back of your printer to make sure it’s not locked either, then try to yank the filament out from the release.
If you’ve gotten that one out already, it’s possible you have a piece of filament still in the PTFE; it shouldn’t require that much strength to push (I’m a tiny asian girl with the hand strength of a 90 year old granny on deathbed). You just have to hold that down and lift the unit up at the same time. Don’t pull too fast because of the cables connecting the housing and the unit.
Hello!
Thank you for responding!
The printer did not generate an error, rather when I went to set up a print, the AMS simply did not show up! The nozzle had moved back to its home position after the calibration completed. I am pretty sure I could print if I just put a role of filament on the place on the back Where you Put filament when you dont have an AMS as the printer appeared as ready to Print before I turned it off to resolve this AMS issue. I have attached another image here which shows the gear on the right that is stuck in the up" pusition and you can see the one next to it which looks the way they usually look in the resting position.
My hands were not weak when I was younger and healthy. I have some health Concerns which affect my strength and Stamina as well as other things.
I did not see the grey thingy with springs on my P1S. On My P1S everything is black except for the box that houses the nozzle which is light grey.
Thank you again.
I have to remember not to post at 3am. I checked the Grey thingie (buffer) which you clearly stated was at the back of the printer…it is fine. Because it was 3am I misunderstood and was looking at the back of the Inside of the printer!!!
On the original problem, normally if you can’t remove filament from the AMS it’s because it’s still “loaded” and ready to print. Hitting “unload” will go through the whole routine to cut the filament and rewind it on to the spool. You should be able to remove it after that.
For the second problem, to remove the PTFE you want to put one hand in the space pictured. Split two fingers, one on each side of the PTFE and push both sides of the black part:
Hello!
Thank you so much for your response! For some reason I did not see it until just now.
So I still have not been able to fix my AmS.
As I had not seen your message, and I saw another suggestion on Reddit I set about getting my P1S printing using the Single spool Configuration without the Ams which I had never done before. This took Some doing as I also had some trouble removing the PTFE Tube The AmS had used to load the filament! But I did finally succeed and printed a Tube removal assistance Thingie but I think it is only useful for the buffer Tube.
I have been doing it the way you describe above, but the tube just will not budge So I just must be not doing it right which I cannot understand because frankly it’s just not Rocket Science.
I’m using my two fingers to press the tab on either side of the Black end of the tube down, and pulling the tube with my other hand to no avail and nothing,it just won’t move!
I think once I get this tube out I will be able to figure everything else out.
My hands are not strong, but can that really be it?
Thank you again.
The rear AMS tube can need a bit of force to unplug even when pushing down firmly on the release indicated by @PrinterMcgee above.
Especially if the PTFE end is frayed or the PTFE coupler is broken. You may need to use pliers to get a good grip and subsequently replace the PTFE if repeated wriggling does not get it to budge.
You may also want to print the full set of PTFE release aids.
The PTFE tube fittings used are push to connect. These style of connections are designed to resist being pulled out and so you typically need to push the tube in while pressing the release button/mechanism.
No problem! Is the filament still going from the spool in the AMS to the buffer? That could be what’s stopping the PTFE from coming out. If it is I would cut the filament at the spool and try again. Also using @EnoTheThracian and @RandomKhaos suggestions above.
