Well, guess i’m going to adjust my plans to upgrade to a P1S or X1 in future are quickly veering off a cliff.
like your marketing bs above, i’m not buying it.
Such a shame BL, i was really enjoying the convenience.

Even if this was not meant to be a lock down, they are going to loose alot of business because of it.
One thing I don’t understand about this is what was the point of logging in with maker world creditial thru Orca Slicer if there was no security? Would that alone not prove you have an account and not a malicious actor spamming their cloud. Again to remotely use Orca Slicer I always had to sign in to Bambu usomg credentials, so why add another step to sign in with the same credentials?
I use Orca because Bambu Studio doesn’t work well with Windows 7. I mean i finally got the program to install and run but not good.
Your so called security authentication firmware roll out is bogas.
You need to rethink this arrogant authoritarian update that attempts to control the users of the printers they bought and paid for with their own money. Give us the choice of whether or not we want to be locked into your authentication nonsense and give us firmware updates that actually improve the printers ability to print and not restrict our freedom. You are going to loose a lot of buisness because of this foolish new firmware update. Prusa and Creality are looking better and better. Now I wish I had never purchased your printer.
I was planning to buy 10 more P1s to improve my printer farm…I need to change my plans . Adios
Good luck in your new endeavor.
So, Bambu, you retroactively changed your original announcement and deleted that original page from Archive dot net to gaslight your users into crazy misinformed bunch of conspiracy theorists? Very sound business move, we applaud your wise strategy makers. Btw, good move a month ago to stop shipping your stuff to NZ and let the local distributor raise prices through the roof, otherwise I’d be now looking to sell secondhand that brand new printer. Bought a Qidi instead.
This mode needs to bypass Bambu Connect (any authorization control) and operate like we have now. No cloud required, direct unfettered access to the hardware we purchased with no exception. Sure harden your cloud security, expand resources available to cloud servers, make them more reliable and robust, implement per connection limits, etc. but don’t play these games because you will lose market share.
Maybe create yet another mode that has direct access to plugin like we have now but completely drops any connection back to the cloud. This way you don’t have to worry about third party code having loops that overrun your cloud resources. For now I’m blocking my printers access to the internet and uninstalling older instances of bambu studio from family members devices just in case (orca is the go to but still have old versions of studio installed). I also won’t be ordering the H2D until its peer reviewed that something like what I’m requesting is in place.
I don’t see anything not involving cloud here:
Right now my printer is on older firmware, has no access to the internet, I’m using third party open source apps to control every aspect of it and I can do it remotely.
Official BTT statement. So much said and so much that does not match with the current official Bambu statement.
This should be how a company, big or small, communicate. Openly and without fears of retaliation.
BTT opened pandoras box with this statement. Now it’s a matter of waiting.
It doesn’t affect me personally, but i have to be present for my colleagues that are and will be affected.
That’s it, this was just in case someone had missed it.
You went from “i highly recommended a bambulab printer to anyone who just was slightly interested in 3D printers” to “buy every printer but not a bambulab” in one week. Concratulations.
I may be mistaken, but i think i remember that they stated that possibility on the main page since the start.
They even advised people to always check BTT website before any firmware update.
I get your point, i honestly do, but they have always warned people about it since day one, even youtubers who did all the pre reviews said the same.
Either way, it’s a sad situation for everyone.
To be fair, if I go back and look at the order page - I don’t recall seeing the message - then again, I think I was just in a rush and hurry to get it purchased and setup. It’s likely I missed it more than them not posting it. But in either case, it’s really worrying for me now.
This is not true. This has been common knowledge for close to a year. Look at the release date of this video. Jan 25, 2024
“Bought a Qidi instead”
And… You’re here. Why?
I spent years trying to find a printer ecosystem that would let me use various hardware with one powerful slicer. Orca came along and solved all those problems and made my workflow so much simpler. I use it to slice my 2x SV08, X1C, P1S, and K1 Max prints.
Now, Bambu chooses enshittification which will foul up my workflows. No thank you. If you do this, I am done as a paying customer and will look elsewhere for my printing needs. I’ve seen no less than 10 youtube outcry videos in the last 24 hours. I have not seen 1 person that is happy about this. You’ve done such a great job making printing more accessible. What you are doing is violating that trust and flying in the face of what the 3d printing community wants. Don’t do it!
I was considering reopening my 3D print business but now that’s just not going to happen. I guess I should have expected this from a Chinese company and bought something different. This kind of tactic seems to be the way of the world these days; Darth Vader’s “I’ve altered the conditions of the deal.” All Bambu are doing is a bait-and-switch to keep users locked in and deny any culpability in the resulting mass exodus from their customer base.
I’m currently looking to migrate to the X1 Plus firmware due to this strategic and tactical FAILURE from Bambu. If I have to, I’ll replace the main board so I can keep the printer functional while I bring my Ender 3’s back online. Anyone have any recommendations for replacement main boards?
I’m beginning to wonder if WE actually ARE THE OWNERS of our Bambu Lab printers? The instant this lockdown/authorisation rubbish started rearing its ugly head, how can we possibly trust this and more will not just materialise in the future. You buy a car, jump in it and it doesn’t start because you didn’t connect it to the internet to ask the manufacturer for permission to go for a drive! Creality are becoming VERY appealing again. Bambu Lab made great printers but they’ve just screwed themselves with this.
Apparently you stopped reading a little too soon.
7.4 Your Bambu Lab product will automatically search for and download new update packages to provide you with timely update services. These updates are designed to resolve cyber security loopholes and prevent new threats, and it is important to accept and install security related system updates in a timely manner. Due to the importance of these updates, your product may block new print job before the updates is installed, and will immediately provide update notifications to help you understand the related information.
I guess printing is one of the “functions of the Product” that may be limited. Sounds like BBL gets to decide, not you.
I’ll ask the same thing I did in another thread… define “blocks” in this context? Is this the dismissable update prompt I get on the A1, that “blocks” me from printing from the SD card until I press “Skip”? Blocks can just mean blocks UI workflow, not blocks from use. Or does and has X1 series behaved differently for updates in the past (no time machines yet, so future/possible behaviour is irrelevant)?
I started looking at the Qidi Plus, check it out.
