What are the major differences between Bambu vs Generic Profiles

When i was slicing, the filaments loaded in AMS were mistakenly loaded as Generic PLA but right colors. The slicer estimated the duration 4hr 35. I realized the mistake in the last minute and resync. When i resliced, BS estimated it as 3hr 27. After i started the prints i tweaked with the filaments. Although settings and the speeds look similar BS profile is always faster. What makes this difference?

The main difference is the max volumetric speed rate at the bottom of the filament settings:

This is generally the limiting factor for how fast things actually print at (unless you have lowered speeds quite a bit already).

FYI: PLA Basic is set to 12 by default and Bambu Basic PLA is 21, almost twice as fast at the limit.

Thanks for the swift reply. That should be it. Is there a quick calibration test to find optimal “Max Volumetric Speed” for my non BL filaments. I have a few dozens of Creality hyper Series PLA and PETG spools. I was entering the K value and PA for them. I was assuming MVS would be adjusted by BS automatically.

I believe you’ll want Orca slicer for that, they have a specific calibration test for max volumetric flow.

Yes! Orcaslicer has a great set of all the calibrations needed to dial in any new filament. Orcaslicer is a drop-in upgrade for BBS.

Here is their calibration guide (look for max volumetric speed test):

Thanks, I will check. Is Orcaslicer integrates well with BL handy app and P1S, camera, AMS etc. I know BS is based on OS and OS has much better options but I hesitated use it instead of BS.

It fully integrates.

Slc3r came first.

Then PrusaSlicer arrived, built on Slc3r. At the same time Cura came out, also based on Slc3r.

Then, BambuStudio arrived, based on PrusaSlicer.

Then OrcaSlicer arrived, based on BambuStudio.

This is an oversimplification…but basically Orca is nearly identical to BS with more features. It is especially good if you like to use non Bambu filaments and really get them dialed-in.

It communicates with your printer the same way, and changes nothing having to do with Handy, etc…

When you fire it up it will look the same as BS. And, if you find you don’t like it, you can go right back to BS.

OK thanks. I downloaded it now. I will try it once the current print will finish.

I am new to BL and BS and i did not know that. I was almost about to take screenshots and compare. This one is really handy. Thanks

Do it interact with Makerworld the same way? (Donwloads, prints count, etc.)

You have to do that in BS. But you can then open the project in OS.

Thank you for confirming it.

It looks like there are some features exclusive to BS. While looking for the answers of the same question, I found this thread for one. But had already found a workaround to it too. :grinning:

I will start test runs with OS today. If I feel like I am missing something i can switchback to BS as well (as if i can realize, I am new to BS, too )

And here is an other link to a thread how to use Calibration Tools in OS to your advantage.

Yes. I didn’t mention the Makerworld stuff because I don’t use it much and didn’t think of it. Nothing stopping you from using both apps.

OrcaSlicer Preferences can be set to download directly into OrcaSlicer when you choose “Open in Bambu Studio” on Makerworld. That will also leave the 3mf in your default Downloads folder.

The one time I downloaded a model this way I was not able to rate/review from Orca, but I’ve not managed that from Studio either. I am probably doing something wrong. Usually, I just download the stl/CAD file and print with my own settings.

Orca will load all parts of a Studio 3mf file including settings and the Project tab.
Studio will load only the geometry from an Orca 3mf.
