That’s the million dollar question that they’re being extremely reticent to answer. I suspect they’re just hoping that people will stop asking and be quiet.
Yep, I said wait, you need to wait, they won’t give you a resolution until they have it. If they dont have a resolution, you won’t get one yet.
All my profiles except my most recent were uploaded pre-2.0
I’m not sure what you’re implying here, I’ve been on MakerWorld since mid 2023, your earliest upload is from this year, unless you have multiple accounts
It’s now coming up to five days since I asked if you would be restoring the original print profiles that MakerWorld broke when you decided to re-slice v1 print profiles to v2.
Giving us the courtesy of a simple yes or no answer would be appreciated.
I still have many print profiles that you broke, and far too many to re-slice properly and re-upload.
Just to add to the discussion. I have not updated Bambu studio to the new v2. Yet i uploaded my latest model to makerworld and afterwards downloaded it and opened in the previous bambu studio version.
Supports were gone and instead of 2 plates (one for each piece of the model) i am presented with one plate and the second part of the model floating on the side.
I can’t even think of modifying all my profiles if i needed to. Also had some 1 star ratings on models where no one ever complained. Most of them are because of bad adhesion and failing parts. There must be something wrong with what they have done. It’s not the user fault so please fix it or at least reverse it.
If they ran some sort of migration script, it might have irreversibly altered the files… hopefully that is not the case but I guess we’ll see.
It’s now well over a week since you were asked if MakerWorld would be restoring the original files that they butchered with their appallingly poor re-slice to v2 file formats.
Would you please give us the common courtesy of a simple yes or no reply?
I also had a report of some of my models no longer using the painted supports as my original print profile had. This error caused the profiles to add wayyyyy more supports and wastes a lot of filament.
New Bambu Studio version doesn’t fix the support issues…
It won’t because when MakerWorld auto re-sliced (extremely poorly and without any error checking) existing v1 print profiles, they managed to delete most custom settings from the original print profiles.
Of course, now they’ve admitted it was a stupid thing to do, they’re gone utterly silent on the issue of what they intend to do about restoring the profiles they ruined.
@MakerWorld @SupportAssistant
It’s now around two weeks since you admitted that you made a mistake automatically (badly) re-slicing existing v1 print profiles and stated that you would not do this again in the future.
You have been asked multiple times what you intend to do about the profiles that you ruined and if they would be restored to their original version.
To date, there has been no reply to this issue.
As a matter of simple courtesy, would you please confirm if you intend to re-instate the the original print profiles that you ruined, or if you just intend to continue to ignore the issue ad-infinitum.
No, it was about the poor AutoSupports…
I want to bump up this topic, as I just had a user comment that they are seeing “incompatible” for PS1 on profiles that I posted last year (which should be/has been, compatible with every bambu printer).
Is there a definitive explanation of why old profiles are having issues, and what is expected by the “owners” of old profiles? i.e. does anyone have clear and concise explanation of action I should be taking with old profiles to ensure a smooth user experience?
They likely didn’t store the originals when they migrated them, so your solution is to go and check which ones are broken and re-upload them, if you no longer have the original files then there isn’t likely much anyone can do unless they still have a copy of the pre-updated version
The lesson for all parties is, keep backups
I suspect you’re correct, but I would like to hear that from MW directly.
The sheer contempt they’ve demonstrated towards their customers lately does not inspire confidence for the future. Bambu frankly have gone from being the darling of the 3D printing world to something of a joke in several short months due to their dubious decision making and gatekeeping.
It’s a shame, because their hardware is superb, the software is ok, but the corporate decision making regarding the X1 firmware issue, compatibility with third party software and hardware and now the absolutely brain dead decision to re-slice perfectly working print profiles rendering many of them completely broken will make many people look elsewhere in the future.
The fact that they simply won’t engage and be honest about the issue simply compounds that perception and increases an already negative view of the company.
As for your final point, as it happens, I do keep backups (multiple of them), but it’s not as simple as just restoring a working print profile to replace the one broken by MW. On top of uploading that profile, MW insist (quite rightly) that any uploaded print profile must be accompanied by a photograph of the actual print. There is no way on earth that I am prepared to do that for around 150 print profiles - it simply isn’t practical or cost effective.
Well don’t hold your breath lol
True, and thereby proving my point. Bambu have gone from being the first brand I would recommend to a friend to something somewhat lower than that. I’d never tell them not to buy Bambu, but I would make them aware of the issues and problems they’re likely to encounter.
The recent dire customer service has made me seriously reconsider where I’ll be spending my cash on my next device.
All companies are as bad, so i wouldn’t really sweat it, they are still pretty much the only thing actually worth recommending
Just because some companies are bad doesn’t mean ALL companies are bad. For example: Prusa’s printables never malforms uploaded files while Bambu did just that with “updating” print profiles to the new version that breaks backward compatibility.
This comes with huge caveats… And with the competition not only catching up, but surpassing in some areas (and/or offering cheaper alternatives) the blanket “just get bambu” is not reasonable recommendation nowadays. There’s too many good options available not to explore them.
I want to echo the question - I have couple profiles I want to make sure they’re working well for people. Should I download my profiles myself from MW and try them? Do I need BS 2.0 (I don’t want it just yet, way to “fresh” for my taste with ALL the bugs i’m seeing) to check whether the profile works?
Not really, the caveats only affect a very small minority of users, and that percentage of affected users is getting smaller by the day as more users buy bambu machines
Like i get that the people who are affected are suuuuper upset, but they know deep down that this was always going to be how it played out, they are mostly venting at this point, they know they are not the target demographic any more and they know that no matter what they do they aren’t going to get what it is they actually want from bambu, but they keep buying them because there aren’t really any better options on the market in terms of reliable hardware, even the core one from the fabled prusa wasn’t able to actually beat the X1
So if anything, the “caveat” looks to be denial at this point
Unforeseen circumstance, they happen, oddly enough software development is hard and bugs don’t always present themselves in testing and there isn’t always a lot you can do to fix the issue once its been deployed that doesn’t end up with other stuff breaking, the print profile issues can be resolved by the end user should they find theirs is impacted
