Which plates should a new X1 Carbon ship with?

My X1C combo received first week of March 2024 was received with one plate that says on both sides: Textured PEI Plate and PLA/ABS/PETG and Hot Surface. It had no glue stick.

I thought the X1C shipped with two plates, and that there were different surfaces/coatings on the opposite sides. And that a glue stick was included (it is mentioned in the user manual).

Must other plates be purchased to print with additional materials?

And must glue be used on the plate that I received?

Same “issue” with my brandnew X1C. Bambu Website & 3rd party resellers describe 2 plates as being included in the X1C combo set. I also only received the textured PEI plate. Change in configuration or is something missing???

I believe they are phasing out the cool/engineering plate in favor of the gold textured plate.

Don’t know what is currently included. Used to be one, two-sided, Cool Plate/Engineering Plate and glue stick because it was needed.

They may be skipping the glue stick because it is not required with PEI (but often recommended).

2 days ago my Bambu Lab X1-Carbon Combo arrived with the gold textured plate. No glue stick

So it seems that new X1C printers are shipping with a textured PEI plate and not a smooth PLA plate any more. But the calibration is documented in the BL Wiki as being unreliable when Flow Dynamics Calibration is done using a textured PEI plate.

What does this mean for Flow Dynamics Calibration on a new X1C (or any model) that only has a textured PEI plate?

Mine arrived last September so still had the smooth cool plate / engineering plate with a glue stick and a few new plate stickers.

I had good experiences with a gold textured PEI bed before, so had ordered one with the printer too.

The reason for the cool plate is to keep the chamber temp lower to reduce PLA premelting and jamming up in the printhead. The simple solution is to leave the lid off or the door open when using the textured PEI. I didn’t once or twice and have had a few of the premelt jams.

There was the warnings about the LIDAR calibration but it’s never proven an issue with me. I’m using eSun PLA+, eSun PETG, Bambu PLA’s and PETG.

Honestly, I only go back to the cool / engineering plate if I’m looking a smoother bottom texture, otherwise I stick with the gold PEI, it’s reliable and not as fussy about glues.

Glue is not needed on the textured PEI high temp plate. BL website says the type of plate that comes with the printer is random. If it were for me, I would have prefered to have what you have :grinning:

Thats to bad I use my engineering plate for everything!

I only use PEI textured board, it doesn’t require glue and works with most filaments, it just needs to be cleaned with IPA before use.I so love how easy it is to use.

The website said the plate was supposed to be random. I read some posts saying people received one of the smooth plates so I ordered the textured one when I placed my order for the X1C. Of course it came with the textured one so I had to return the one I ordered, with shipping expense on me.

The textured one is the one I would’ve wanted. I also ordered the smooth PEI one just so I can have both, and so that the lidar can work properly. Although I’ve never received any error message using the lidar calibration on the textured plate. Does that mean it’s accurate? Or can it still be inaccurate but not throw an error message?

The detailed data sheet for PAHT-CG says that a glue stick can/should (?) be used, not liquid glue. Has anyone tried PAHT-CF on a clean textured PEI plate or on one that has been coated with liquid glue?

I’m not sure if this is a “MUST” or “Preferably” point, or if printing PAHT-CF without any glue may damage the textured PEI plate when trying to release a print.

I believe the PEI plate now works with Lidar.

Please explain how this has anything to do with printing PAHT-CF on a textured PEI plate?

Apologies, my reply was re: regarding which plate the X1C comes with and why they recently decided to ship with Textured PEI plate. As for glue, if I recalled correctly it’s mainly used for releasing rather than to stick build to plate.

Thanks. My X1C shipped with a PEI plate, and it appears that all X1Cs will going forwards. I still see warnings messages on the screen and in Studio and Handy about various calibration activities on a PEI plate not being reliable. The Wiki has not been fully updated as the Lidar, firmware and software evolve, so there is conflicting information on calibration and use of glue.

My textured PEI plate has had liquid glue applied and it works well for all materials I’ve tried, but since the PAHT-CG sheet lists only a glue stick for this material, I have concerns about printing before washing off the liquid glue and applying a glue stick. That’s a PITA even if one side of the plate has liquid glue applied and the other a glue stick because it could mess up the heater bed surface.

You’re quite right, I too have notice quite some conflicting info here and there. I suppose I’d wash off all previous glue and apply the suggested glue fresh before printing PAHT-CF, it’s quite an exy material so wouldn’t want to get it wrong too often.

Make sure you dry it really well and print in dry box / AMS with desiccant gel, the material is quite hydroscopic.

I’ve got some coming for a project so would be keen to see how you go with Texture PEI, most of the example I’ve seen have been printed with Engineering or High Temp Plate but Texture PEI is now on that list of recommendation as well.

My understanding is that the glue is to help the material from not fusing to the Texture PEI to not damage the coating and ruin the plate.

Good luck and let us know you go :+1:

I’VE got two plates, one PEI and one two-side plates, along with a glue stick, a tiny bottle of liquid glue and a spair 0.4 nozzle. So long I have printed for 158 hours and ive been always using the two side plates, So I wonder What’s the usage of the PEI plate?

What the hell? Even P1S comes with Golden PEI and glue stick.
How about engineering materials where textured pei suck? WTF, engineering plate is a must …
