X2D WiFi Connection Problems: Solutions?

I have used my A1 Combo for well over a year sitting about 7 feet from my WiFi. I also have an A1 Mini that is in the same room, and now my X2D Combo which sits where my A1 used to sit. My network has not changed and the distance to WiFi has not changed (and is exceedingly modest), yet the X2D has caused nothing but headaches in the network connection area since day one.

I have reset the printer to factory, updated the firmware, assigned a static IP in my router, and tried two separate bands. The A1 and A1 Mini are still working like champs. They show up in Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy responsively and stay connected when I am home and away from home. The X2D does not refresh in either of apps on its own, has not set “click this” to get it to finally connect, and drops the connection constantly mid pre, mid, and post print. I obviously cannot connect to my LAN via Ethernet as there is no port. Has anyone else experiences WiFi connectivity issues with this printer?

I also jointed the beta program in case a newer firmware was being tested, but if it is, it has not been pushed to me.

You should not be having general wifi issues with the X2D, unless something is either defective or not not fully plugged in. I would start a case with BL, as you may potentially need some parts under warranty. In the meantime, check the antenna connections:

I would inspect the cables/ribbons and their connections, any cuts or scrapes to these cables could potentially cause issues.

Edit: The AP board is $150 and then front cover is $10, I believe the front cover comes with the wifi antenna. Generally I suggest getting these under warranty and free of charge. For me, time is of the essence, I would probably order these two if I were having your issues, and sell the ones BL sends under warranty, or sell if not needed.

I’ve noticed poor WiFi reception as well. Sometimes signal strength is good sometimes it’s bad.

Also sending jobs to the printer can be very slow - I don’t know if it’s the Bambu server or poor WiFi

I can confirm it takes a minute to get to my printer via bambu also, and i know it is there side as i have a Netgear Nighthawk RS300 WiFi7 with a 2.2GB Internet line that has blistering latency that i monitor constantly. I also get the same time whether i use ethernet (i have a 2.5gb and a 5gb card) or wifi.

That being said, that doesnt mean it is Bambu for you guys. Not trying to teach anyone to sucks eggs here, but for those with less knowledge on WiFi, here are some handy bits that may help:

  1. Higher the wifi number you go (5ghz, 6ghz, wifi 7), the worse the through wall performance is.
  2. If you have thick (dense) walls, this will not help either.
  3. Higher the WiFi number you go, distance for performance also reduces.
  4. Channels, get a free scanner and use less populated wifi channels.
  5. Device count, this one is often misunderstood. just because it is a small IoT device, doesnt mean it isnt causing bandwidth issues on the wifi channel. High amount of devices? you need a better router and it is very rare ISP’s give routers that can take high amounts (speaking from the UK here).

My suggestions would be to have dedicated 2.4ghz channel and put the printer on that as it gives better distance and through wall signal at the price of speed. But case specific here, we dont need big speeds.

If you are stuck in a situation where the router and printer have to be where they have to be and the 2.4ghz dedicated channel isnt helping either, try using a powerline ethernet (or just a long ethernet) to a small access point device your printer can then connect to. for best performance in the higher ranges of wifi number (5 or above) sub 1m is the optimal distance, but again case specific you can be 5m and still be fine here.

I assume that the X2D can use 5ghz. Is this the band that’s giving you issue? I realize you’ve had and continue to have no issues from the A1 - A1 Mini, but it could also be too many devices. Hear me out.
I had a similar issue with my P1S having a reliable connection. I had to send it to the guest network (no devices) and it smoothed out. The P1 was the only device struggling. Using the 5ghz with the H2d, the guest for the two P and A everything runs smoothly.

According to X2D FAQs | Bambu Lab Wiki , the X2D supports dual-band WiFi (5G & 2.4G).

If the X2D is 7 feet from the antenna/access point, I just don’t see the 5Ghz being an issue derived from signal strength or amount of connections, but anything is plausible I suppose.

I guess the OP could separate the two bands by having 2 separate SSID’s, one for each band, and testing each separately.

When I print on Sundays (US EST), I often notice a slowdown derived from BL’s servers, it takes forever to send a print via wifi and it takes forever for the printer to receive it and process it. Perhaps it’s not just a Sunday situation for me, but nowadays I just use the SD card to print and avoid these BL delays.

The server lag is a sure thing. As for the 5ghz vs 2.5 I’ve noticed the difference. YMMV.
I also have a lot of IOT and other network devices, so maybe it’s just a coincidence. In any event, everything works so I’m not messing with it.

I have had the same issue. Had the unit in my basement and the connection was barely usable. My P1s was in the same spot and no issues. Brought the unit up the first floor and not much improvement.

I sent my log files from the printer to Bambu and they are sending me a new antenna. I have my doubts about a run of wire being the solution, but I guess the connector could be jacked or whatever. I will install it when it arrives and post an update.

Got mine on Friday, worked perfect until Monday morning, now no wifi, most likely have to send a log since it seems people are not finding a solution. Printer sits 5ft from my router with no walls, was working mint until this morning, very frustrating. When I turn on the wifi in the machine it just turns itself off, doesn’t give me the opportunity to even select a network now.

I am beginning to suspect there is a combination of things going on. Possible driver related or maybe it is mostly Bambu’s servers. They are sending me an antenna, but I have had two days now where it is working well. In addition, my ISP reset my ONT earlier the same day it got better. I am tempted to say it was my ISP config even though everything else on the network was working, but I have heard so many similar reports now that I feel like there might just some item on the BOM that a little too cheap. No idea. If it is still working a week from now I will update that it was probably my ONT. If it goes out with the same problems I will replace the antenna and update that.

This bothered me so bad I went digging.

Most people have seen or read that the 2.4 network is preferred for BL networking, so I restored the machine to factory, I then went into my router settings and split my network, I run ATT fiber so I force changed the name which disabled the auto assign stuff. Went back through the setup for the printer and bam, its working fine again.

Now the issue is, this little deviation dumped every SINGLE thing in my house that was on the wifi network :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: So now I’ve slowly been reconnecting cameras, smart switches and anything else I had on my single network.

Will report back if this is a solid fix for my issue. I do still plan on opening a ticket as this thing is BRAND New.

I have found that a lot of these IOT products lose connectivity because newer routers (so called smart routers) try and move a product that broadcasts on 2 frequencies to an alternative to manage throughput.
I have switched off smart mode and use three different frequency names for consistent connection.

Never an issue from then on.

From pure coincidence the other ecosystem that is a pain in my ■■■ also required network tweaks this week. I had to do what you did in order for the Apple users in my house to have a solid connection as the phones/computers themselves would get kicked off the router’s mesh network. I had not thought of that being related, but it was almost the exact same time. I bet that is the problem. Does not play well with smart routing.

Constantly disconnecting and connecting to the network is probably caused by a faulty router, you need to restart it, I had the same problem with a creality printer

My problem persists, lost power last night due to weather for a bit, when it came back on the printer had lost Wi-Fi again. Performed another factory reset but this time it did not work, Wi-Fi on the printer is unable to see ANY networks. Guess I’ll wait on Bambu now with this $900 desktop decoration.

I’ve just installed an access point in the same room as the printer - things are snappy now… not that the signal was weak before, but so far it has made print jobs lightning fast

Airgap your printers and use Bambuddy, since then I rarely have issues. Prior I was needing to powercycle after nearly every print to regain connection. Router is in same room less then 10feet away. Since setting up an airgap with my homelab now I might need to powercycle once every 3-5 days(I print alot).

I also see Wi-Fi issues and honestly the wireless only option for such kind of devices is just non-sense.

Before latest FW upgrade if I leave the printer for several hours without job it get disconnected, and will not connect again until I go to the screen and do WiFi off/on cycle.

After last FW upgrade I see improvement.

Wi-Fi AP is hardly on more than 3m.

I dont have mine in front of me to confirm, but have you made sure your wifi access point is broadcasting that SSID you want on the right freq range? At -three- meters, nothing should disconnect lol. A1 P1 and most other vendors hard required 2.4ghz, and x2d I think supports both 2.4 and 5. [not 6?]
