I know it’s (yet) not possible to use two different nozzle sizes in the same print, but is it possible to have for example a 0.4 installed left and a 0.2 installed right as long as I only use either the left or right nozzle for a print? That way I could at least switch fast between different use cases.

This is what I came here to find out. I’m considering buying an H2D and need to know if I can order just one 0.2mm nozzle that I use when I need to print fine, single material prints, or do I have to swap both nozzles over even if I’m using just one? Can someone who has an H2D help please?

Cool, thanks! Different question. Is it possible to use different sized nozzles in one print when using print by object? This in general should not be a problem. At least I can’t think of one.
No, there no way to assign individual nozzles to object in slicer right now.
What I think they can integrate very easily is different nozzle sizes for different layers. So you can use 0.2 for first couple of layers for markings/text and 0.4/0.6 for all other layers. I hope that comes sooner than later.

With the H2 series, it is purely a software issue, the hardware can do it.

I really don’t want to drop another $2500 on yet another new Bambu until this is possible. If this were a thing I would order the H2C right now.
Heck, even a promise of it coming in the future and I would put in my order today.

This can probably be interpreted as a promise for future support, given the wording “Currently, the H2D Dual-Nozzle function only supports nozzles of the same size.”
Mea culpa, cant find a written promise, but it was certainly a buzz in the air prior to its release, and was not affirmatively stated to be unsupported. I agree w/ LordSatan’s assessment that the wording “currently” is the exact weasel words that marketing and legal agree on
7 months ago, Dr Tao was interviewed and explained they are working on different nozzle size usage within the same print.
He stated it is a software issue in the slicer, which in my opinion is correct, he also said they started thinking about it 5 years ago.
This is as close to a promise as I remember.
I dug out the video for review (there is a YouTube bug on embeds right now, you may have to click it).
I think there biggest strength in slicers is the biggest hurdle to multi nozzle size printing.
Bambu Lab didn’t create Bambu Studio, it is a spin-off from Prusa slicer. Because of this, they got a fast start and ‘help’ with new features. The downside is they didn’t design the core slicing code which itself needs to accommodate multiple infill patterns making the task complex.
It is very possible, but it might take real commitment to time to implement. Given the H2C has likely chosen the wrong path to success given it is neither an INDX or tool changer, they could get some sales by actually adding different nozzle size printing into the slicer (even if on one infill option) as this would be an industry differentiator.
That is so far the only reference I am aware of also.
Prusa has some functionality under experimental in the slicer, and I have seen a YouTuber go through a lot of hoops to get something functional coming out of it.
It would definitely help if BambuLabs would at least bring some limited experimental stuff into the slicer so users can play with it and give feedback.
The simplest and easiest to implement capability would be to assign a different nozzle to a number of layers, so detailed text is possible with a smaller nozzle.
That is one that was already proposed by some.
Different nozzle sizes for the outer wall(s) seems also simple looking at it from a single layer perspective, but the first additional complication is management of different layer heights required.
And also the fact, that on shallow surfaces, the infill is getting exposed and needs a proper solution also.
And then there is adaptive layer height, infill before or after walls, inner/outer wall order, etc. that all interfere with each other, and needs proper handling.
I think BambuLabs wants to get something that is fairly monkey proof before they release it, and that is what is possibly holding them back to release something. Even under experimental.
Certain user errors might cause the nozzle to crash into printed layers, with all kind of negative feedback from users as a result.
From looking at some of the formnext videos it sounds like Prusa are working on improved UI and more advanced multi nozzle support in Prusa Slicer 3.0 - mainly driven I guess by adding support for Bondtech INDX. Hopefully that will ripple through to BS if BambuLab aren’t also working on it.
