AI generated models flooding the website

My suggestions 1 and 2, which require all suspected AI models be put in a queue and go through review, will put a brake on the number of AI models that can be published. If MW reviewers notice the same account or a few acccounts keep pumping out large number of AI models, they can put a limit on how many AI models one account can upload, or ban them for 6 months or something.

It can be bots. But I am also thinking MW is being turned into a 3D version of Midjourney. For those not familiar, Midjourney is one of the major AI image generating programs where users create and rank images.

I suspect (no proof yet) some users who are enthusiastic about using AI + some other programs to create 3D models have come here to create their own AI 3D model community, sort of a community within a community. Instead of ranking each other’s 2D images in midjourney (and only get some free use hours), they like, download, print (if printable), rate, and boost each others’ AI 3D models on MW to get some rewards.

Thanks, I just spit coffee all over.

You know what this reminds me of? The foil covered chocolate ones. The outside printing on the wrapper is so detailed and nice but when you unwrap it there is this sad blob on the inside.

Are you fat-shaming the poor fella?

He gained a few pounds after the photos were taken.

You’re right!!! I remember seeing a video once where they were showing some dollar stores use the same chocolate blob for all holidays, at Christmas it had a foil Santa wrapper, at Halloween a foil witch wrapper and so on lol…

Ugh…. Fixed now…

I love some of the ribbed examples in that other ChatGPT image above as well, from a design perspective it looks like I can take different approaches too and not just the same one

Just told the wife yesterday to check out mw for Xmas stuff now instead of late December when it’s too short notice to print a bunch of stuff

Man half the stuff she sent me screenshots of has mismatched thumbnails or just isn’t printable

And let’s not get started on how many Lego wreaths there are on MakerWorld… sorry brick wreaths

I bet they’re exclusive too. :upside_down_face:

OH my goodness! That doesn’t even seem made by AI…but by a 4 years old child
Oh God! He has a Patreon and people are paying monthly… 19 of them at the moment!

This is an ironic statement considering the circumstances.

2 down, only 0.999998 million to go.

We need an AI to detect the AI and then let the AI remove the AI so Makerworld can be free from AI!

But what if AI goes crazy, turns against us, and starts spamming AI?

Oh my gosh. Well, I know that spajx was kicked from Makerworld, but that person is on Printables, and I was poking around a little to see if anyone is calling that BS out over on there.

I noticed this though…

I mean, the beautiful cover image.

And yet, here’s what you get. And imagine if you printed this with the Handy app, where it may not be as apparent how badly… uh, bad, this model is.

These ears! Gah!

Alright, well AI fanboys, tell me how this is not a scam? I mean front to back, that whole dude is a scam, and that dude has a Patreon. We have AI generated images with incredibly poorly done models that don’t match the images well at all. This one in particular is just another level of garbage. This is some of the worst of it, and this is the sort of garbage we invite into our home when we let people loose to do whatever they want. When we tell people it’s okay to bait and switch, when we say it’s okay to mis-represent your models with AI generated imagery.

There is room for AI in this world, and amongst us all. There’s no reason to fear it, loathe it, or shun it. The sort of tools that Makerworld has been developing, the generative tools, are all awesome and a great addition to this community. These are great tools to help people new to all of this create! They help break down the barriers.

What I do not find acceptable is this kind of cheap manipulative behavior that gets us stuff like this “wolf” sculpture and the incredibly bad 3d printable model you get with it.

Others may not be so bad, or brazen, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a slippery slope that hurts us all in the end, when we allow it to go unchecked.

Use <short> a bunch, it’ll disappear in the real thing.

That one takes the cake. That’s ridiculous. It’s the ultimate contrast, the picture is beautiful and the model is horrendous.
