AMS 2 Pro Feed Issue

I have an AMS 2 Pro connected to my H2D, both brand new, only a week or two old. I am in the middle of a print and I get an error that says “AMS A Slot 1 assist motor is stalled,due to excessive resistance in the tube near AMS.” I can see that there is no filament in the tube from the back of the AMS to the printer. I ensure it’s loose and try again. Same. I repeat. Same. I unload and try manually feeding. It gets as far as the back of the AMS and goes no further. It’s like there is a hard stop at the back of the AMS. I can’t feed it past that, the AMS can’t feed it past that. It’s never getting into the tube outside the AMS that goes to the printer. I can see the filament in the tube that goes under the spools toward the back. The tube from the AMS to the printer looks to be hard installed into the back of the AMS with a rubber boot, so I don’t see a way to reinstall that. What could be blocking the tube? I see there is a circuit card in the back in that general area. Is there a “gate” that is electronically controlled?

Another piece of information. I found there is a black thing in the vicinity of where the tubes from the four slots come together. If I depress that, I can feed it past that, but there is a lot more resistance once it goes past that point. I fed it a good ways past that and tried again, but the printer use total retracts the filament and can’t get past, even if I hold down that thing. It seems like it’s a hard failure of the AMS unit, unless someone has a better thought.

The ptfe tube that enters the ams might not be fully seated, have you pushed it in completely?

The tube that enters the AMS can not be moved in or out of the AMS. It’s connected differently than other tubes in other places and doesn’t have one of those release collars. It came pre-connected to the AMS from the factory. Besides, when I look inside the AMS as I try to manually feed the filament, it’s not making it to the back of the AMS. There is a gap where that tube enters, I can see it’s not making that far.

In this image, you can see the black pieces circles. If I depress that, I can feed the filament further and all the way to the printer. But the resistance is much higher than normal as soon as I push past that piece. And if I tell the printer to continue, then it fully retracts the filament back before this thing and again can’t get past it (even if I hold it while letting the printer attempt to feed). My suspicion is that it’s related to filament drying, like to seal off a hole through which moisture my enter. For whatever reason, in the middle of a print last night it decided to stop working.

just because it comes already assembled it doesn’t mean it can’t be moved… PTFE tubes are actually consumables, and you might need to change them at some point

it might have been an error during preparation at the factory, i would try removing, inserting until fully seated before going into any further troubleshooting, as that is the most straigthforward step

Alright, learned something new there. It does pull out, but you have to press on the top part of the rubber boot. Done. Made no difference. I even trimmed off a little of the tube even though it didn’t look worn or deformed. Put it back, in as far as it would go, no change.

Here is another piece of data I just determined. If I unload the spool and do some drying. Then reload the spool, it feeds normally (makes it outside of the AMS). But once it’s done and retracts it back to the normal position, I can’t manually (or electrically) feed it past that hard stop. I’m telling you that it feels mechanical to me. It feels like a gate is closed and I can feel the filament hitting it. It happens in all four spool slots.

Very strange, never happened to me so can’t say what might be the issue, have you already raised a ticket for customer support? Maybe they’ll have some steps to determine what could be the issue or if they need to send you replacement parts

Same thing here with my brand new today unit. Started making a scrapper and almost finished when I got an error that I needed to insert the filament. Re-load, light comes on AMS and feeds, starts grunting when it gets to the small black lever where the four lines go in for the different colors and I finally got it to feed to about where it enters the case at the back and then retracts it, after a few seconds the light goes out on the feeder then I get the same message.
