Since a few days I noticed that this fan has started to make a very high pitched noise. Looking at the replacement guide it looks like a rather lengthy and technical process to replace it.
Besides replacing, is there anything else I could try first or am I out of luck here? Is this caused by debris/dust or is this just a faulty unit? Been printing 667 hours before it started.
Yeah, fairly common complaint with how tough it is to get to some of the fans. Might be a buildup of debris, lots of filament can become a very fine string and clog up the fan. If it’s the part cooling fan you can probably just pop it off and grease it, but if it’s the hotend fan you’re out of luck.
Personally I’d give it some light smacks to see if something is just out of place, the extremely lazy and careless side of me says try a bowl of rubbing alcohol or mineral oil. (Definitely don’t do that). Better off going through the process before taking any shortcuts.
see if you can use high pressure compressed air to reach into there and try use some wd40 contact cleaner (suggested because they would not cause eletrical issues after dried, but remember to remove your build plate first)
I’d be careful with spinning the fan, not sure if the fan/board has backflow protection and spinning it too fast might zap your board. Unplug the fan if possible.
Yup, can’t even continue printing now, immediately throws this error. Additionally it’s now saying the extrusion motor is overloaded Did my H2D just brick itself lol. Guess my brother isn’t going to get his gift tomorrow
There are certainly quite a few defective fans around.
They are a PIA to replace as well. I just replaced mine after getting the same error.
I almost exclusively use a heated chamber and had 350 hours on mine when the fan failed.
There is no way this fan should fail prematurely.
I ended up buying a new fan out of pocket because going through the warranty process is an absolute joke. Uploading files, photos, or videos is hideous just to see if the printer is under warranty.
The time involved from start to finish to replace the fan if your are handle with small screws and tools is slightly more than an hour. If your not hand, good luck!
I’m hoping the new fan will not fail either but is doesn’t look any different than the original so Bambu apparently doesn’t recognize this as a trending problem.
This happened to me today—my hotend fan on the X1 Carbon started making noises that honestly sounded like a pig being slaughtered. Two hours later, it gave up its life. So if you hear any strange sounds coming from your fans, be prepared to swap them out sooner rather than later.
In my case, I had an old broken MAKO hotend lying around, and I was able to use the fan from that. So in the end, this little shrieky piggy was a nothing ham.
Well for me this was all handled within 24 hours after sending the initial report. They’re sending out a replacement part under warranty. So in this case I can’t complain about their support at all.
My fan started sounding badly after I started doing high temp prints. I’m going to order a new one and hope this one holds out for a while. 65C chamber temps don’t seem to play well with the extruder fan?
@simtom I also noticed a high-pitched noise coming from the hotend fan. I print exclusively with nylon and polycarbonate. Does replacing the fan or blowing air through it help?
