Does everyone spend points on Gift cards?

I was looking through the points shop and there is a lot of cool stuff there. But all I hear people talking/complaining about is the Gift cards.

Don’t get me wrong! I love the gift cards, but I have gotten a couple of the mouse kits and they were awesome.

I am looking at getting the “Maker’s Essential Kit A” for 1200 points.

If 490 points equals $40, then that would make the kit $97.96 (in points value), but it costs $149.

So the points for the kit is definitely worth it!

Have any others tried out the kits with points? What were your thoughts?

I guess since coupon is for “99% off” you still have to pay $1.49 bringing the total value of the kit to $99.45

Has anyone gotten this kit before? Is it worth the cost?

What sort of points? how do i get them?

I think Bambu mailed out a bunch of these kits to “early adopters”. There was a thread a while back that they made an “oopsie” in the email address line.

It wasn’t the full kit. They were smaller kits specific to a selection of builds. Still pretty cool. It helped me spring board!

I’ve thought a bit about getting the coupon for the full kit. I’ve thought about getting the Tank too, because that’d be fun. I always fall back to filament though. Love the stuff, need more of it.

I had read that thread and thought those were just random kits sent to a chosen few to test.

Most of those kits mentioned, I didn’t see in the points redemption page.

Was anyone sent the Essentials kit I am looking at?

I have a good collection of filament (at one point I thought I had a filament addiction), so I was looking at the other options to measure their worth.

The kits look like a lot of fun, and I thought that maybe I could design my own kit/project if I checked out the available items in the Essentials kit. I was hoping to get the opinions of others that might have tried the same, to see if they thought it was worth it?

I can get a lot a filament for around $100 (the approximate cost of the kit).

It does! I believe @Dr_Operator got the kit, so could provide more insight.

With just the limited selection I got, I enjoyed it. It inspired me, having those parts. I’ve ordered more parts off of the makersupply since then!

The motors are cool. Haha, ended up not being the right fit for my first project with them. I like the options they give though, and the non-soldering of it all. If you go down that path, get yourself a usb extension cable with a switch in the middle of it. Jon clued me in on that one, and it makes those motors much easier to play with.

It’s pronounced “privacy breach”. A crime in many countries.

Yet none of my fellow designers have sent me emails asking about my car’s extended warranty :frowning:

I received a couple of these due to the “oopsie”.

They both look great, one a big motor the other a very full set of many, many parts.

The big motor I can play with. The other one isn’t suitable for people with tremors (they had no idea, not blaming them).

Just imagine an idiot with hands that shake trying to grab a tiny screw from a bag of tiny screws, trying to see them with one non-blind eye working at best at 80%.

I could make money from those “send us your stupid video for cash” tv shows as those screws and everything around them flies into the air!

I’m more concerned about the upcoming recall due to the printed floor mats covering the printed accelerator pedal.

Yeah, it looks like most of the parts are pretty small and are probably not targeting people with tremors. So I image you did not find the kit the most helpful/useful for yourself.

What kind of implementation do you think the big motor can be used for? Simple direct-drive for an axle?

As it is USB direct powered, it won’t be for anything that moves under its own power.

I print a lot of things that have motion in them which doesn’t translate well to photos as you can’t get the sense of them. My tremors ran I can’t be part of the animated gif or a video making them move or spin.

I was thinking about something that made the item perform its function so I can create a video or animated gif.

I am not talking about a lazy Susan-esq rotating surface (although I should also get one of those) I mean something that could make the model move itself.

Likely a pipe dream.

I think Kit A is definitely worth it, especially if you use points to purchase the 99% off coupon. As you pointed out in the other thread , it’s cheaper buying it that way. It is just packed with a lot of cool stuff and a lot of not so flashy, but super useful stuff.

For example, I never knew how much I needed dowels until I had them in my hands. I absolutely hate 3D printing hinges. I find printed hinge pins always cause problems. They don’t always print right, can be difficult to insert and occasionally break. With the dowels, I just drop a 2.15mm hole into the model and forget about it. I know the dowel will fit perfectly, stay in place and never break.

This is a quote from the 2nd anniversary thread that I feel is appropriate. My brain works in a very similar way. I knew when I pulled out the MR52 bearings that I was going to make a tiny car and when I started to play around with the electronics I knew what I was going to make.

That package says “1 White 3030-LED Board with SH 1.0 Connector 5V (2PCS)” but it might as well have read “Hey Doc, here’s a couple headlights for ya.”

I feel like every designer would benefit from having a Kit A and if you’re like RandomKhaos and myself, you’re really going to have some fun.

This is the one with all the tiny things.

These are the packets.

These are the contents.

Wow, that is a lot of tiny parts!

Uggh yeah. I used screws for hinge pins previously, but the dowels are soooooooo much better. Moving forward I’ll always use the dowels.

Not everyone is keen on the added hardware, but I think it brings a lot of quality to a given model and moves it from proof of 3d printing concept to actual tangible product. I don’t think everything should be 3d printed just because we can. Haha.

The problem I see is that the average user doesn’t want to buy a small kit from BL to print a model they want as they have to wait for it to be delivered, plus the delivery charges.

Those who want something will go through that hurdle, but, it will hurt the chances of a model being printed.

I imagine providing both ways would be an advantage to the designer and the user.
