Getting special treatment when it comes to "Unfriendly Content" violation

I posted a model of a rubber ducky showing the middle-finger. I didn’t even use the f-word anywhere. Yet I received a “Unfriendly Content” violation, and my model was restricted from visibility. On the other hand (hah) there are other models that get a free pass EVEN after being reported.

Examples:

  1. Mechanical Middle Finger - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
    1. Apparently per the reporting system ‘The model “Mechanical Middle Finger “ you reported has been processed. Thanks for your effort in maintaining the community order.’ yet the model is still shows up in the search results. Doesn’t even get an NSFW flag.
  2. Hand Drawstring Beads - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
    1. Same case: ‘The model “Hand Drawstring Beads “ you reported has been processed. Thanks for your effort in maintaining the community order.’ yet the model shows up in search results and is not flagged as NSFW.
  3. "Merry Christmas!" - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
    1. I have reported this model multiple times but there has been no response. Released 2025. 1.2k+ downloads. They get a free pass.
  4. Knitted Jet Pack Rude Bunny - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
    1. This one is hilarious. It is literally titled “RUDE bunny”. Shows a bunny giving the middle-finger. Despite reporting it multiple times, it apparently does not count as “Unfriendly Content”. Perhaps because the designer is so big?
  5. just for you - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
    1. This is a box which opens to give a middle-finger to the opener. Reported it: ‘The model “just for you “ you reported has been processed. Thanks for your effort in maintaining the community order.’ It still shows up in search results and is not flagged.

These are just a handful of examples. Here are more.

So clearly the guidelines are not enforced equally across all designers. Is there an explanation for it other than the favoritism? How can a new designer garner such favoritism?

This might be signaling a change in how Bambu deals with this stuff. Many have had their models just removed and big points penalties imposed.

A smaller hammer with various models is probably welcomed.

There does seem to be - action was likely taken due to another user’s complaint. It happens a fair amount. Models are fat and happy then boom when somebody reports it. Technically all the models with such content are in violation but Bambu only seems to enforce when others complain.

May or may not be what actually happened but it has happened like that to a number of people here.

As MZip mentioned, a lot of it is driven by user reports.

You could probably report all of those other models too and get them dinged. (Not saying you should do this… but just that’s how it works)

Thanks for your reply! I do realize that it is easy for models to fly under the radar, which is why I only included explicit examples of models that I reported after mine was taken down. Even in cases where my report was “successful” the offending models were not taken down.

I’d say to that extent too, it’s different people reviewing each report. People aren’t machines, they have their own life, views, and everything. So, there’s never going to be a truly consistent enforcement. Especially when it comes to systems like this that rely so heavily on community engagement and reporting.

There are “middle-finger” models that I have reported multiple times that haven’t gotten taken down either. I reported this model 3 times. Not even an NSFW tag enforcement. I suppose your explanation works here too. All 3 times they got the same reviewer who is fine with the middle-finger OR they got 3 separate reviewers who were also fine with the middle-finger lmao. I just got unlucky.

I think you’re putting too much energy into it. You’re not gonna solve anything by going on a vindictive reporting spree.

Some models will be more prone to issues like this than others. Some people are fine with middle fingers. I personally have negative feelings towards such models. I just ignore them, they hardly come up in my feed. Not everyone is going to feel the same though and will report such models when they see them.

That’s the reality of posting on Makerworld. Makerworld tries and positions itself as a family friendly platform. They are trying to get kids into printing and stuff. When you post crude/rude/nsfw content to Makerworld, you’re always going to run the risk of issues like this.

It’ll always feel unfair too because there’s always gonna be someone else out there flying under the radar. It’s life, all of us eventually pull the short straw and have a bad time.

My personal advice. You file a report, you forget about it, you move on. Your energy/time/life is worth more than fighting Makerworld over a middle finger. Filing a report should be a release, you’ve said your part. Beyond that, the more you keep it in your mind, the more it controls you and takes away from you.

If your thing is making middle finger based models, then you need to consider a platform that is more friendly to that type of content.

Anyone else getting deja vu from this topic?

It really doesn’t take that much energy to delete a model. In any case humans aren’t machines. We don’t need to maximize for 100% efficiency!

If you are fine with violations being handed out unfairly, that is fine. I am not. I am capable of compartmentalizing as well, so it doesn’t take anything for me. There are things I like about this platform, and so I’d like for it to be better.

Appreciate your response, regardless! Thank you!

Even outside of that, this type of issue gets posted to the forums often enough and it’s the same thing every time. Someone’s model gets reported, they’re unhappy because their model was taken down/dinged while example A, B and C get to continue existing.

We all come from different places in life. That model is offensive to me. But I’m just one guy and I have the ability to “shake my head and move on”. It’s called maturity. I don’t run this company and have zero interest in debating the pros and cons of the sites chosen paths. I’m a fan of cleaning up the models. Again, I’m me. My guess is there’s quite a few that would disagree. And that’s cool. We all walk it out. But the bottom line is up to the big pants that run the joint. They will - and do - get the final say. We just live within the confines of those decisions - with the freedom to either utilize the site or move on to some other place. Gotta love that.

Clearly a systemic issue?

Specifically the middle finger issue. I feel like this is thread #4 in the past few months.

Proof that MW is enforcing their policies in an attempt to make the platform more family friendly..

Nothing here is surprising.

You’ll probably be interested in this, since there’s already a huge thread on this topic. Actually, your topic is a duplicate and redundant, no criticism intended, but I think this has already been discussed to death:

You should also look into the NSFW tag, since your model might fall under that category.

By the way, your model is still displayed. It’s not even tagged as NSFW. It probably just won’t show up in the trends. “Restriction from visibillity” does not necessarily mean “not visible at all.”
