@MakerWorld btw: Have you considered implementing volunteer moderators? There are certainly several creators whom I would fully trust to assist in moderating the platform, particularly in enforcing these straightforward rules.
Car CABIN Gadgets is the best example that no one at MW has control over the models added there, they prepare guidelines that a gigantic group of people do not follow, and MW does nothing about it.
âFor our latest contest, we welcome makers to design gadgets and accessories that improve the functionality and aesthetics of the car cabin. From organizers and holders for smartphones, tablets, and other devices to innovative storage solutions, entertainment systems, and safety devices, the possibilities are endless. Whether itâs optimizing space utilization or enhancing interior design, we encourage you to think outside the box come up with gadgets and accessories to enhance the comfort, convenience, and safety of car cabins.â
one of the examples they add â-In-Cabin Signsâ
And what suggestions do we see when we list them by the number of downloads?
Tire Valve Cup in fourth place, added on April 9, and at least a dozen others.
Tire Depth Gauge in position 9, added on April 10, and at least a dozen others.
A few rim cups
Mahjong game!!! added 5 days ago.
A dozen or so signs about bad parking, illegal parking, reserved parking spaces, etc. that certainly do not fall into the âIn-Cabin Signsâ category
Contes is not called Car Related but Car Cabin only, but no one does anything about it.
Thanks for your suggestion. Weâve added the ability to report irrelevant models on the contest page in our next update so that our users can report contest entries that they believe are irrelevant on the specific contest pages.
For this matter, we are having internal discussions about potentially inviting volunteer moderators for our community, we will let you guys know once a decision is reached, thanks for your concern
Nice
This will streamline the moderation infinitely, weâll all see a serious jump in quality in the contests when this is implemented.
Please please please vet the potential volunteer moderators well. We donât need something like the power-trip type discord moderators that run by their own world ideas, not the specific makerworld guidelines.
Just recruit them from Reddit. Thatâs the best way to make sure youâll get well rounded, reasonable mods, lol.
I agree, and the fact that one of the makers of valve caps is in this thread defending why they should be relevant is wild. With the logic of adding a single line of text saying âalways have a set ready in your cabinâ to make it relevant. Well we might as well submit anything, what about the airless balls people have been making recently? Just slap in a line of text saying âkeep one in the cabin of your car to always be ready wherever you go!â and voila, relevant entry right?
Now, I have nothing against this user, or anyone else submitting similar things. Theyâre simply not relevant to the contest, plain and simple. It would be relevant to the 0.2mm contest due to itâs size and could/should be submitted there.
There really isnât that many entries submitted to these contests, especially considering the time span. It should be easy for Bambu to more actively monitor entries IMO.
But with all that said, it doesnât mean these irrelevant models will win any prizes which makes it not a huge deal. But it still causes clutter in the contest page. I for one enjoy looking at entries to see what people come up with. And I donât want to scroll through dozens upon dozens of models that donât fit the contest parameters.
@MakerWorld I would suggest imposing the same 50-point penalty to other types of ineligible entries, such as remix, or a model that had won a contest before, etc. The 50-point fine should be for each violation. For example, if a model is uploaded again to the same contest after it was removed, another 50 points will be taken out of the account, for each reupload.
well, you are right in some way. but I wasnât defending. I was complaining about beeing hidden without any notification while others where still there. âŚalso I wasnât punished with a 50 points penalty. so I was just wondering BUT was accepting. I just complained about the way this happened. and still this hasnât changed as I was enabled again without any other notice.
I designed the caps not directly for the contest. I had in mind that soon people start changing their tires again. then I designed the caps. I hesitated adding them to the contest but saw others which also added external stuff. so then I did - but I was writing this sentence because bambu once said in another thread that this may legit the model. and it seems this was the case because they unhided it. of course itâs a kind of trick but this is even more related to the topic as mahjong or many others⌠âŚso - this was defending
by the way - just joking - this is not a kit card
That mahjong can be used as a temporary parking plate, you can arrange your phone number with mahjong tiles.
thatâs IMHO a good idea I never visited the model - just read that it was mentioned here.
I have just reported 9 irrelevant models from the Puzzles & Brain Teasers contest.
That is 8.7% of the current contest entrants.
Another 7 reported.
Why do these people think such obviously invalid entries will go unnoticed?
Yet another contest is being ruined by irrelevant models and MW is doing nothing to stop them from entering or acting on any reports.
Puzzles and Brain Teasers
The following are categories of entries clearly irrelevant and MW is sitting on their hands ignoring their job.
- 5x Fidget Spinners
- 2x Passthroughs
- 1x Gear cube
- Fidget spinners - spin (I know I have designed many).
- Passthroughs - passthrough (I know I have designed a few)
- Gear cubes - rotate
None of these are puzzling and not brain teasers either.
Why is MW allowing these models to benefit from the publicity of a contest when that is exactly against the rules THEY created?
Why are they muddying up the waters of contests?
Set rules and stick to the rules, this is good for designers and users.
Unless there is a benefit for MW to allow such blatant cheating and rule break.
quite a few with no print images as well.
I worked on mine since yesterday and wouldnât consider posting until I could print and photo.
Yes it is irritating.
I am the same, I am working on a second puzzle and making multiple prints until I am happy it fits together perfectly and requires a guide sheet to go with it, so I had to create separate artwork for that.
What is wrong with having standards and expecting others to do the basics and not cheat and not have MW permit cheating?
To be honest, I think people who post irrelevant items use the contest as a way to boost their own models. The mechanism is simple: a person uploads something âpopularâ say a fidget spinner, then joins into contest; that drives views and from views it drives engagement; engagement drives âtrendingâ algorithm and once youâve hit âtrendingâ youâre raking in points.
Obviously a decent enough âfidget spinnerâ would get picked up anyway since thatâs what people look for, but the engagement from contest is hard to pass on.
I understand MWâs hesitation from driving people away, after all more creation on makerworld is more better for them, at the same time - people who do follow rules and get overshadowed by rule-breaking content might feel underappreciated for their efforts.
I do think such situation requires just and honest handling, which is hard to do with limited staff and without slipping into volunteer mods having power trips. Hopefully MW will act properly on valid reports and users will learn to avoid breaking rules for points and at the same time screw up other peopleâs enjoyment of contests.
Well itâs that behavior that is so demoralizing.
After watching most of you for almost a year I took the leap and am trying to learn something new. My real uploads are niche, I know that and expect to never trend.
Iâve made some other stuff, that takes me a bit of time as Iâm learning. It sucks when Iâve spent hours on doing something someone else could do easily, and upload to a contest only to see it get lost amongst the illegitamate entries. I KNOW I have no chance of winning. My thrill really is seeing someone, anyone, appreciate it. I begin to feel less thrilled when I see it getting buried under drivel.
Some of it is drivel. Me too is everywhere on Makerworld, and good ideas get ignored over the next Standby iPhone holder, or the 100th Benchy. I admit too, I report every damn benchy because itâs nothing new over the og, and alot of time it is the og.
Makerworld is responsible for all this. The incentivise uploading for 50pts. A lot of trash is just to get that free 50. Then since they donât police it just means those people will upload anything to get more points.
I think Iâve preached. Pass the plate and donât be stingy
