I have had my P1s for over a year with many hours on it and virtually zero problems. It’s been one of the best pieces of tech I have ever owned and I am a 20+ year IT guy. I know there are dozens of shills for Bambu Labs that get free printers on YouTube, but I want to believe at least a few of their glowing P2S reviews based on my experience with my P1S.
I just ordered my P2S today and came here after the fact and after seeing all of these repeated issues, I am very worried I may have made an expensive mistake. I didn’t need a new printer, just wanted to upgrade, but this seems anything but.
Should I be worried?
How many have been sold do you think?
And most importantly, how many regret their purchase?
The P2S is a great printer on paper. I think that most of the reviews are genuine.
Although QC is where they seem to be lacking. Hope you get a good unit and if you didnt then it is time for a return and exchange.
Now that they are finally in the US. My buddy that works at microcenter has said that a few have come back. One of them was shipping damage. The other ones were returned because they could not pass calibration on initial setup for some reason or another.
Worried? YES…worry about the cost of all the filament you’re going to be using!!! Just got mine and set it up next to my X1C. It is different…in a good way. Don’t like the anti-vibration feet…tried them on the X1C and took them off after one print. AMS2 rocks also. No, Bambu hasn’t given me a thing…other than a large invoice. I don’t like that parts are not interchangeable. Hot ends and build plates are different…even the glass top is a different size. Supposedly you can use other build plates, but it won’t recognize them–different coding. P2S has been out in Europe and Canada for quite some time…released in the US just a few days ago. Only on my second print…PLA with the door closed.
Relax. What you see on the forum is a very small minority complaining, partially because they immediately started changing settings and sometimes hardware. I ordered my P2S on 17 October, it arrived on the 22nd, and has been printing different brands PLA and BBL PETG-HF & PETG Translucent without problems, other than 1 (detected) spaghetti, due to my design of a model with only 4 tiny 2x2mm contact points on the bed. I have NEVER used any other setting than the Bambu Lab. This printer really works “out of the box”, and that’s amazing. (I.m.h.o) The only thing “wrong” with the design is the PTFE filament tube touching the glass lid, so I printed a riser to correct this. I wish you many happy hours of printing on your new P2S!
I have used my new P2A regularly every day since its arrival, one month ago. No problems, everything works smoothly. So, no concerns for you. I suppose they sold a lot of P2S. You should be happy!
My P2S has arrived! Of course after setting it up my first print failed and filament got stuck in several places along the boden tubes. I thought, Oh No! I made a huge mistake. However, it was not the printers fault. I put in a seldom used roll of PLA and it was very brittle and snapped at the slightest bend. After I cleaned up that mess it has been printing flawlessly with PLA, PETG and ASA.
DOWNSIDES:
The nozzle wiper is absolutely terrible! Maybe worse than the original on the P1S. I replaced that with the Ultimate Nozzle Wiper on Makerworld. I am hoping he updates that to the P2S because it worked flawlessly.
Also, this thing draws some serious power. My UPS screams every time it starts up. By that I mean it emits a VERY loud beep that it is over the rated current. At first I thought this was the printer making the noise but when I turned off the sound and it still made the noise I discover the UpS issue. I don’t want to replace the UPS as it is fairly new, so my only option may be to eliminate it and take my chances one of our frequent power interruptions here doesn’t ruin a print.
The spool holder is a joke. If you have the printer near the wall it’s useless. But it’s also very flimsy. I hope someone comes up with a sold alternative. I already tried one but I’m not too impressed.
Finally, was it worth the price for the upgrade? Probably not. There isn’t enough hands on difference, but at least I have the latest and greatest.
However, I would still recommend this as a first printer and already have. If it continues to print as good as the P1S over time I’ll be very happy.
Anyway. I’ll report back if there are any more issues but so far so good. Thanks for the replies and putting me at ease.
Good morning Tony1. I have my P2S printing and, sincerely i do not find the problems you have.
First, filament. Well, Bambu is not my sponsor but, during my experience with A1 Mini i tested filaments from other suppliers. Apart the fact that other brands arre not automatically recognized by Bambu feeders (AMS LIte or other) and, it is true, this is a Bambu limitations, the winding quality of Bambu spoolsis absolutely better.
Concerning the spool holders, you are right, but just considering the position of your P2S. A printer needs room to operate, you should make room for it. OR consider buying the AMS HT, a real wonderful upgrade.
Concerning UPS, we all know that 3D printers need energy, but this happens also for paper printers which, in certain printing operations, need a lot of energy. So, probably, or your UPS’s batttery has low efficiency or you should consider a more powerful UPS.
I come from A1 Mini, so, in my case, the P2S is a solid upgrade.
I want to be clear, i am not telling you that you have, forcedly, to spend money to make your printer better, but it could be the good way. Let me know if your expereince gets better in future.
Totally agree with your vision on the AMS-HT: I use it for PETG-HT and the AMS 2Pro for PLA. (Different drying temps.)
Your concern on the windings of “other” manufacturers may be a bit exaggerated: after 6 weeks of use with Polymaker, BASF and cheap “Smart” filament, I haven’t had any problems with the 2Pro winding and unwinding, and even cardboard spools (Polymaker) run just fine.
I’m usually the guy that goes for the best bang for the buck option, eschewing the comfort add-ons. Even I can appreciate all the new quality of life improvements on the P2S.
Anyone have their P2S shipped via FedEx and get the “barcode label on this package was unreadable. We will replace it and update the delivery date” message on tracking it right out of the gate? Its been 5 days since Fedex got it and reported that label issue in tracking and still no updated delivery date.
The AMS 2Pro that comes with the P2S works completely different than the AMS Lite: the spools run on the rim, compared to on the hub. I live in Belgium and bought the BASF filament (cheap) at a local shop clearout. They didn’t sell well, so the shop stopped selling them. They were 750 grams instead of the usual 1000, but printed very well on both my A1 and P2S.
