We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! MakerWorld is teaming up with the creators of the iconic 3DBenchy model to celebrate the10th anniversary of its release. For the first time ever, the original 3DBenchy CAD file in STEP format will be available for download on MakerWorld!
In honor of this anniversary, we’re launching a special design contest on MakerWorld, inviting creators to remix the iconic 3DBenchy in unprecedented ways!

"Mark your calendars for April 9, 2025, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iconic 3DBenchy boat model with a groundbreaking contest! For the first time ever, the original 3DBenchy CAD file in STEP format will be available for download on MakerWorld.

This file, released into the Public Domain, allows CAD users worldwide to import 3DBenchy into their favorite software—be it FreeCAD, Fusion 360, Inventor, SolidWorks, Rhino, Onshape, CATIA, PTC Creo, DesignSpark, Solid Edge, IronCAD, NX CAD, or many others—and edit, adapt, and remix the design like never before!

Unlike the traditional mesh-based 3DBenchy STL file, the STEP format opens up a new world of possibilities for advanced remixing. We’re calling on all CAD enthusiasts, makers, and designers to push the boundaries of creativity and showcase their skills by crafting the most innovative 3DBenchy remixes. Whether you’re adding intricate details, making an RC 3DBenchy, giving it new powers by integrating Maker’s Supply hardwares, transforming the boat into a futuristic vessel, or reimagining it entirely, this is your chance to make history with 3DBenchy on its 10th anniversary!"

The original 3DBenchy CAD file in STEP format will be available for download on MakerWorld on April 9th.
We’re beyond excited about this milestone - and we know you will be too! Start brainstorming those creative ideas now.

Sounds great, but do I understand this right: We are getting the STEP-file on the same day as we should already provide the remix? That means we have to create, test, adjust, optimize and publish the remix within one day? Than I am out, as I can’t provide high quality within this short time. It would be great to have the STEP-file at least one or two days in advance!

From my reading of this, that’s just the day the contest opens. It’s now listed as an upcoming contest on MakerWorld so I would anticipate a normal contest length.

Just FYI this link is broken as it goes to /en-se/ which doesn’t redirect to the appropriate page on any non-EU stores.

You will get the link to the STEP file on the first day, when the contest starts. Then, for the duration of the contest, participants will have enough time to make cool 3DBenchy remixes. :slight_smile:

Possibly! I’m currently in the brainstorming phase, which is just me staring at my desk hoping it tells me what to make :sweat_smile:

Just BTW it says “A1 Combo” but the photo is of an A1 Mini… also you’re giving away a signed printer? How does that work?

So intially we wanted Daniel and Paulo to sign the printers as well as the Benchy models. But after consideration we decided not to sign the printers and keep the printers in their original boxes. Sorry for the confusion.
We will also correct the pictures for the A1 combo. Thank you very much!

I like number 2! “I’ll turn it upside down and add tree supports, that will help me win”
I won’t look it this contest again, it hurts my eyes :rofl:
