Makerworld "community" tab was a big mistake

In my eyes, makerworld should ban polls. Just take a look at this “art”:

Anyone notice that @MakerWorld as usual does nothing to clean up the rubbish they promised to sort out?

https://makerworld.com/en/@RealNationPrint/posts

This user is still spamming multiple times a day in defiance on one of those hard rules MW imposes yet fails to uphold.

All reports have gone to the team of deaf and blind people who it seems are allowing blatant rule breaking.

WHEN WILL YOU FIX THIS MakerWorld?

@MalcTheOracle I already reported it the first time i saw it. Reports are not getting through, don’t know why.
The problem with that user is that he is trying to grow his social networks follower counts and using the community and a giveaway as a way to lure people. And if you check, many users are playing along. Don’t know if i am smart or if the others are… you know what i mean…

The giveaway is going to end with the guy giving a 40€ gift card, that costs only 524 points and a random username that does not exist as a winner for the A1 mini, that probably doesn’t exist also.

The worst offender here is how he is misleading users without any disclaimer, rules or contest addendum. But, again, people seem to be blind.

Me, i have already blocked him since the first time i saw it and left it at that since reporting does nothing.

I know, which is why I said this…

And this.

Despite us all reporting the user days ago, those spam messages are still live and for days it has continued unabated.

There are people voting for politicans who promise free stuff who don’t realize that they pay for it through taxes… And those politicans frequently win. So yes, those people are DUM.

Yes, such “contest” straight up is illegal in multiple jurisdictions (certainly whole EU)

Indeed. On the other hand, out of the couple reports I’ve made on “community” posts, the only ones that took hold and resulted in MW action were blatant “boost-for-boost” type of posts.

Hear me out here… Why don’t you apply to work for them? They’re clearly understaffed and looking for remote CSAs pretty much everywhere. Why not clean up the mess yourself and get paid to do it?

Because I am on my literal death bed waiting to die.

While the polls seem like a good idea, they use way too much screen real estate, are mostly spamming, and not adding much value, as well as not formatted correctly on mobile. The rest of the community has been really fun and interesting. Perhaps reeling back that feature would be helpful.

Yes. I’ve seen users doing basic engagement farming with them and even a poll asking to have people posting polls to be recompensated via points of posting “successful polls” whatever that means. I wanted to respond with “Birch, you should be PAYING points to posts such worthless polls, you silly tree” but I didn’t want to drive the engagement further.

As suspected, the initial hype of the community tab is generating a lot of noise and waste, hopefully it will slow down as the novelty effect wears off and we start seeing more interesting posts, but I wouldn’t count too much on that

It seems designed to announce new designs more than anything else, which is fine, I prefer this forum for conversations anyways

After the makerworld giveaway ends and the hype dies down, the spam will probably (hopefully) stop. So long as they don’t add rewards for posting :expressionless:

I really like the community tab. It gives me a reason to actually follow creators and I can easily get to the feed of just those ones. And for those that don’t like the feed it is easy to just not go there. I never really understood why people enjoy complaining about something just because it exists and they don’t like it.

As usual with social media, “Following” tab is great, but “For you” is a dumpster.

And we have another engagement farmer, farming for boosts with even less believeable giveaway:

Amazing. I think this one got encouraged by that other one…

wow, that’s a whole new level of scamming…

That same yahoo was on the original giveaway begging for stuff. So yeah … his giveaway seems legit.

Its the same as facebook groups imo… wont change anything to post there or facebook groups. I dont see any issues there is as well the option of not looking at it

to me they look like fake giveaway… we wont know and personally i wouldnt believe in somebody that doesnt have a good background or that isnt well known but I guess everyone is free to do as they want. I dont think that Bambu should allow people to do those raffles in any way… like trying to promote yourself with fake giveaways just to ask for boosts ? Also this whole boost thing is not great I think that a lot of users are not even using those boosts and are giving them away randomly. It would be better to get the rewards like they used to be before with downloads and prints only.

Fake or real, it is still spam and against the rules @MakerWorld refuses to enforce.

Oh I agree they are fake, I was just trying to be sarcastic in my post. The whole notion of putting these “giveaways” on there to garner points and engagement is against Makerworld rules. Surprised that they aren’t closely monitoring the community tab to make sure its launch goes well and doesn’t garner too much negative attention.

i dont see where it states that we cannot post our models and share stuff like that in the community group…
