MakerWorld Update 04/17

If cults ever even give you the money, the whole site is a borderline scam. Plenty of creators lose money they earn there.

How is this a random iteration? They asked for feedback months ago and calculated a strategy to move forward with. Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of thought put into it.

I struggle to understand your angle on this. You’re a “Specialized 3D Printing Company” but yet you’re upset about some gift card rewards? Isn’t the exposure to potential new customers what you’re actually after on Makerworld?

Maybe business isn’t going well.

Networking! That’s one of the things. I’m not out trying to make business deals personally, as I’m just a hobbyist designer at the moment, but growing my name, meeting folks, and all of that. Like some day I hope I can make a career in 3d printing, and to me this seems like a great way to help make my mark.

It’s was the an additional benefit yes, but also not a goal because a global market scale based on 3D print manufacturing isn’t feasible in today’s market. It’s already been established by major companies such as protolabs & xometry.

So I steered away from thinking of it like that and focused on uploading spare time and useful to me models, simply sharing with this platform. The main downloads if you could see true analytics on a global scale is more than likely not anywhere near my location.

We thrive in my state and surrounding states and mainly work within our local community. This update just brought out every designer thats literally on top… do you not see that the one’s who aren’t within that same tier aren’t in agreement? This is like Red vs Blue.

This would more than likely be in “additive manufacturing” and when it comes to a workplace setting on an industrial level that’s MJF currently and metal/cnc. I won’t downplay your dream but that’s exactly what I work with as a career and profession.

I’m not trying to prove myself to anyone here lol I didn’t even want to be a keyboard warrior but it’s like I’m being attacked for my own opinion when it’s coming from an outside perspective on a company that’s relatively new and just going with the flow…

I apologize to everyone except NukDDD. The individual who happens to be one to abuse a contest by reuploading a model from October he released simply because it’s legit :poop:

It’s funny indeed but if were being technical and by the book, BL states you can’t do that. Yet all he had to do was claim the purging within the model and that justified the decision to let him stay within a contest that utilizes purged filaments…

I’m salty, unskilled, and didn’t get a load of gift cards. that’s what everything i’ve said has been about to him

I’m not exactly sure where I stand within the tiers of designers. I guess in some realm I’m a top tier? Or am I just fooling myself?

I have enjoyed the success I’ve had on Makerworld, certainly, but I still feel but a drop of water in the ocean of life. I’ve existed in the 3d community for nearly 10 years, and have hardly got attention at all.

I don’t make my arguments from a position of privilege. Makerworld has been kind to me, but most of life has been a difficult struggle trying to prove my worth to the world.

Man, and so often I see people do things so effortlessly, and get so much attention and praise. I’m awful at knowing how to hook into that stream, the one where all these trending models live, where all the people flock to. I’m not a trend setter, and I don’t even know how to piggy back on trends. I just fall flat and feel stupid.

That doesn’t mean trendy things aren’t worth something though. People enjoy them, and whatever people enjoy, it brings value to them.

I grew up in poverty, and spent my late teen and early adult years homeless. I have a lot of life from the bottom looking up.

It’s easy to look at the rest of the world and feel bitter for what it has, that you don.t It’s much more difficult to look within and find all the reason to be happy, to thrive every day, even when the world seems to loom over you so.

I don’t spread the messages I do because I have it easy on the top. I say the things I do because I’ve struggled my way along the bottom. I found that to be happy, to do well, to not let this world eat you up, you can’t constantly compare yourself to others, or what you don’t have. You just gotta focus on yourself, what you can do for yourself, and your own talents and skills.

CrealityCloud is looking pretty good right now.

why would you lose? Whoever gives money for a model appreciates it more. I always made good money there.

Because Cults sometimes keep your money and dont pay you. If you haven’t had that happen that’s good, but it happens a lot.

Not trying to sound rude, but where you upload your models, whether you sell them or give them away or where you think MW is heading is irrelevant to the post you initially responded to…

I have never had an issue withdrawing money from Cults. I am aware of the Cults vs. Reddit beef and how that left a sour taste in a lot of mouths, but I personally have never had an issue with them regarding payouts.

I’d argue that this update has brought out just as many with a sense of entitlement, sour that the gravy train is leaving town. Which brings me to…

The epitome of entitlement right there in one sentence.

I’m not familiar with their system so I have no idea how it compares to MW. I can’t seem to find a whole lot of info on it beyond the basic info. Do you have an account there and if so, what has you experience been?

Not sure how CrealityCloud is yet. Could just be a grass is greener type situation but there are some things they are doing right.

  • Anybody can upload but to be in their designer program you need to apply and be vetted (I am still waiting for approval)

  • The designer sets the price on the design. Anywhere from free to infinity. The downloaders directly get to decide what the true value of a model.

All my designs were exclusive to MW before. Not leaving but kind of getting away from the eggs in one basket thing.

I like the idea of free to infinity. It gives people an alternative to Cults perceived sketchiness and Printables $5 minimum.

@MakerWorld is there any incentive to adding a Bill of Material to my design?

As example do I get points or similar if I have a design for the LED light kit and someone click the link from my BoM and make a purchase?

This is a good idea, but I feel like it would be abused and ppl would just spam links everywhere. Maybe only approved designers would get this privilege.
(Also welcome  )

When will the update for Bambu Handy come out? Now it does not allow the display of Boost messages

I think the incentive is helping end users have an easier time finding parts for a design, where external parts are needed.

There’s some new parts I would consider using now, because this gives an easy to reference source for the people that print my models. I’ve also submitted a request already for one of the most common magnets I use, because I’d like it to be easier for end users to find and purchase, especially globally.

I updated the app earlier today in the iOS app store

I’m only here because I hate clicking twice for something that only needed to be clicked once. This engineering problem was solved last millennium.

Ok, this a personal gripe with the new layout…

Why in the download dropdown did Bambu change “RAW files” to “STL Files”??? It is rather confusing IMHO. I see “STL Files” and think “Hmmm… only STL files are available? No STEP files? That sucks.” I can’t remember what it was labeled as previously, but it was far more intuitive.

This was a frustrating hour or so trying to figure out that is where my STEP files went (I finally uploaded a design).
