Just had the Micro SD card fail and cause a bunch of weirdness.
Specifically Bambu Studio would indicate it had sent the new print job but the printer would then run the last job for some random reason. There was no error message and everything looked normal from the Bambu Studio side of things except the wrong thing was printing.
I pulled the SD card to see if I could clear the files but got a message from Windows that the card was write protected. I can’t format it do anything. This was the original SD card with the printer and is about 7 months old
Dropped a new card in and all is back to normal and working.
Putting this post here so anyone else having odd issues may find this as the solution.
Some random search terms that may help:
Last file keeps reprinting
Can’t send a new print job
SD card failure
Yep, I’m finding that I can’t even format the Micro SD that came with one of my P1Ps, it seems totally hosed. Maybe these are short-lived, this one is only about 2 months old.
Most Flash memory in a SD card only comes from a handful of manufacturers, Samsung, SKHynix, WD/Kioxia, Micron (there are a few small players, too). When you buy a card that isn’t from one of these manufacturers, you’re rolling the dice. It might be good Flash or it might be “grey market” (bad lots sold at discount, or even Flash scavenged from customer returns like Phones and Tablets). Even with a name-brand label, it can be counterfeit. SD cards are sold in huge volumes, there’s a lot of motivation for unscrupulous suppliers to cut corners. But sticking with one of the brands that actually manufacture is still always your best bet.
Then, if you do get good Flash, it still wears out. Unlike a hard drive that can be written over and over, each time data is written to Flash, the Flash gets a little more worn out. Eventually it will be so worn out it won’t retain data for long, or it will start to have all sorts of random errors when reading or writing. Recently, manufacturers have started shipping “high endurance” Flash memory, designed for surveillance systems. They’re more expensive because they use a type of Flash that doesn’t wear out as quickly, but they also have much better write performance.
Flash should always be viewed as “disposable storage”. It’s not something you want to rely on, when it comes to data integrity. If you need 1, buy 2.
SSDs are a different story, though. They use Flash but they layer on a lot of additional functionality as well as implement redundancy (internal RAID), so their Flash is a lot more reliable. SD cards have to be cheap, first. They can’t do all those same fancy things. Expect them to fail and you won’t be disappointed.
I got my P1S at the end of the of December. the original no name SDthat comes with the printer bricked a month later, replaced it with a Scandisk cl10 i had which i used for my gopro. Now its May 1st and i get a Micro SD read/write exception. install or replace sd card error.
I dont understand that i been running 4 of these cards from Hero3 and 9 to date without a failures but put one in this printer and its dead in 3 months only done about 15 prints.
I tried formatting in the printer but it still shows the same files and used/free capacity.
Put it in my pc, displays the folders but the content “is not accessible”, Drive properties shows 0 free space and 0 used space ie 0 capacity
Try to format but nothing happens like the system is hanging.
I was hoping to atleast format and reuse the SD but it didnt work. I had a second USB to SD which allowed me to try a full format but windows was unable to complete it. A quick format didn delete any files. SD was still faulty when used on the printer. End of the day i took my last sd from my gopro and trashed the other one… I was running out of time to get a 8hr print started before i left for work.
I literally just received mine less than two days ago, and the SD card just died after uploading my second print. And I cannot for the life of me get the wifi to connect so I can just use the app. Not a great start
I don’t know enough to know what the best format is to use on a Bambu printer. But my IT background has taught me many things and among them regarding Micro SD cards is to start off and sometimes use their associations formatting tools. You can google for them, or go to this link. https://www.sdcard.org/
There you can pull down their format tool. I did not link to the format tool for here, because they do update it. I have found this useful to start a new card and a few times restore use of a “dead” card. No always but more often than not. Worth a shot consider does not cost any $$$
