First, let me say that I know all about how syncing CUSTOM filaments to the printer and AMS works. That’s NOT what this is about.
With the recent Bambu Studio update that added the Sunlu filaments as built in System filaments, THESE are not syncing to my printer and AMS to be able to select on the printer. Since these are now built in “System” profiles, is there still something I need to do to get them to sync to the printer? I’ve tried the “log out and rebind” trick and that still didn’t work.
As a test, I created a new dummy custom filament and that synced to the printer just fine, but I can’t get the new built in Sunlu System filaments to appear on the printer.
Guessing they haven’t commented a fix or said they are fixing this issue? I have run into the same issue with the prebuilt profiles they have, they just won’t load.
Talking to their live customer support will give you no help. They always like to respond with submit a ticket.
Playing around with BS (2.0.3.54 on windows 10) SunLu shows up for BL printers A?, P? & X? but not H2D.
Updated to BS 2.1.1.52
Some of this I did not test in previous version.
If I only have the H2D for a printer SUNLU does not even show up on the filament vendor list.
I can clear all of the filament vendors except Bambu, confirm and when I reopen Filaments All is rechecked and all vendors are selected (SUNLU is still not listed).
If I add another printer, P1S, then SUNLU does show as available vendor for the H2D. Again I can clear that vendor but when I reopen the list it is checked agin.
If I actually pick any SUNLU filaments they show up in the H2D Filament drop down under “Unsupported” and I can not select them.
If I add/remove printers several times BS crashes.
Not sure what printer you have, I have a P1S, and my “custom” filaments (vendor supplied) are placed in (windows 10) are placed in C:\Users"yourusername"\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\user"youruniquenumber"\filament
There are also nozzle size files under C:\Users"yourusername"\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\user"youruniquenumber"\filament\base
Vendor only supplied defs for a couple of nozz sizes so I had to create others, custom filaments only showed up under nozzle size defined for.
There is much more defined info floating around here and in the wiki (I think)
are a couple.
This has nothing to do with the H2D/SUNLU issue.
Sorry if this doesn’t answer your specific question about AMS synching.
Edit again:
For some reason the \ does not show up in front of the " in the path but it is there.
I have an X1 Carbon. No. Sorry, I guess my original post wasn’t clear. (I just tried to edit my original post for this clarification, but the system won’t let me edit it.)
The new Sunlu filament profiles that are built in to the newer versions of Bambu Studio DO show up in the dropdown within Bambu Studio.
The new built in Sunlu filaments do NOT show up on the printer itself to manually configure a roll placed in the AMS or external feed.
I did notice that there are both a new Bambu Studio version and X1C firmware in the last week or two (which was after I posted the original question). I have not updated to these new versions so I don’t know if they will fix the issue or not.
As far as I can tell, the update did nothing to get the SUNLU profiles on the machine. I have yet to find a way to get them on the machine. Live support was no help and just said create a ticket.
Update on my support ticket. They’ve acknowledged from the “R&D team” that the Sunlu profiles have not been added to the printer firmware yet. They said, “Please wait for further evaluation from the R&D team.” So I’m not sure if that means the R&D team is working on adding them to the printer firmware or not.
They also said that it doesn’t really matter what you select on the printer. They suggest simply selecting Generic on the printer if there is no brand-specific profile on the printer. The slicer settings are all that matters, then mapping to the appropriate roll in the printer within Studio.
I guess that makes sense, but then it makes me wonder, why bother to have the filament selections on the printer at all.
Additional commentary…
I kind of get the impression that there was a disconnect between the team that works on Bambu Studio and the printer firmware folks, that when the Studio team added the Sunlu profiles to Studio, nobody thought to also add them to the firmware.
What I don’t understand, and asked Support, is why the Studio system filament profiles need to be explicitly added to the printer firmware at all? If user custom filament profiles automatically sync to the printer, then why can’t new system filaments that are added to Studio also then sync to the printer automatically too? And if it doesn’t currently work that way, maybe they can make that an enhancement.
I have encountered this Exact problem. I use about 80% sunlu filaments. The profiles work on the X1C and the A1 mini just not in my H2D.
Currently I can use bambu labs profiles for most of them apart from the fiber filled (wood) ones. As when I pick bambulabs one it’s WAY WAY off. Do you think I should submit a ticket too?
That sounds more like an issue within Bambu Studio. As long as you select the correct filament in Studio and map it to the correct slot in the AMS when you go to print the plate, it should work.
AH, great point about printing directly from the printer console! And I think if printing through the Handy app.
They did tell me why the system filaments don’t sync. In terms of software development cycle, System filaments were there first. At that time, they weren’t built to sync. Custom filaments were added later and were implemented differently, and were built with the capability to sync.
So they will have to redesign how System filaments work in Studio to make them capable of syncing to the printer.
In the meantime, if you do want to print directly from the printer console or Handy app, and need one of these profiles, the workaround for now would be to create your own custom filament profile based on the System Sunlu filament profile. Your custom profile can then sync to the printer.
