just updated bambu studio to the latest version, and now the smooth / high temp PEI sheet is no longer available for the H2C, needs to be fixed @BambuLab @SupportAssistant
I don’t see that the H2C has a smooth plate, unless you are referring to the Engineering plate or the Super Tack Pro.
ah i don’t use that setting for a bambu plate, i use for a biqu one

Same. Darkmoon recommends the smooth/high temp plate setting for the satin and G10 plates on the H2C.
edit: Darkmoon recommends using the Engineering plate setting now.
Well I certainly used the “smooth plate” for my DM plates, to distinguish from the actual Engineering plate, which I also have. Having some pre-set number/types of plates is already needlessly limiting. Love it when developers remove features people actually use and don’t add anything to replace it. ![]()

Now that the code changes are published, from what I can tell that build plate type selection choice is dependent on the printer configuration preset named not_support_bed_type.
For example from the latest printer definitions, in
system/BBL/machine/Bambu Lab H2C.json:
"not_support_bed_type": "Cool Plate;Smooth PEI Plate / High Temp Plate",
Changing the value to "Cool Plate" or simply "" restores those options (after Studio restart). This also affects which plates are available in a few other UI areas like per-plate type selection, calibration wizard, & printer plate selection when sending a print.
So either editing the existing preset file or creating custom machine config(s) with that property changed should “fix” it. If editing the existing config, be aware it will likely get overwritten during a profile or Studio update. OTOH using custom printer configs may require separate copies for each nozzle size.
EDIT: Changing the value only seems to work in the base printer profile (as shown above). Trying to manually override not_support_bed_type property in custom printer profile files (which are per nozzle size) doesn’t have any effect.
[ Note that this has nothing to do with the printer itself recognizing plates, if “plate detection” is enabled in those options. Just purely for being able to have separate filament settings per different plates, w/out creating filament profiles for each “unofficial” plate. Or eg. running custom g-code based on plate type. ]

Want to ask what i am missing i swear i used to be able to click on the AMS2 under “Device” in bambu studio and i could turn on Drying if so desired, but I don’t see this now or did I imagine this in the past?
Yea, unfortunately seems like it. I already had custom printer profiles for each nozzle size anyway, but turns out overriding not_support_bed_type in those doesn’t work, AFAICT so far (I updated my post above).
OTOH this is a cool find because now I can (easier) use “Cool Plate” as another custom type… ![]()
(In this latest version they fixed (?) the Objects → Plate Settings → Plate type selection list to also honor not_support_bed_type. Previously it showed all the plate types regardless of printer.)

Bambu Lab loves to make some really irritating changes to features that are important to their customers. I hate that they routinely limit the options available to the folks that purchase their products. Why in the world would Bambu think that only 3x plate types is a good idea, if anything we needed more build plate options not less…
Smooth PEI is one of the most common build plates types ever used in 3D printing, yet they removed it, simply because they aren’t releasing one. It was literally the ONLY smooth build plate option. After the Orca slicer debacle I can’t help but wonder if I made a mistake buying another BBL printer.
We still haven’t reached firmware parity with the rest of the H2 lineup, or even updates that the H2S/H2D received months ago. This inconsistency with H2C vs H2D/H2S has me wondering if this going to be another Prusa XL situation with neglected hardware and part availability.

I gave this a try on Mac OS and was unsuccessful in making the Smooth PEI plate option available. I found the “Bambu Lab H2C.json:”, but removing Smooth PEI from thenot_support_bed_type property did not bring back the smooth PEI option

You would think with the amount of 5x-8x build plate holders available on makerworld that Bambu could have deduced that many users aren’t limiting themselves to the 3x plates they sell.

Do this while Studio isn’t running… and perhaps after starting it again check that it didn’t replace the original JSON back somehow (I haven’t tried this with cloud sync enabled, though that shouldn’t matter for the stock presets). And you’re editing the file in your configuration directory (from Help menu), right? The OS shouldn’t matter… not sure what else to suggest at the moment… ![]()

Thanks for the suggestions. I did give all of that a try and repeated the process a few times but had no luck. Also edited it while it was closed. Probably going to log out, do a reinstall, and edit the json prior to reopening BS. Hopefully that helps.
Might check to see if it’s an issue on my PC just to rule it out. It’d be great if Bambu reverts this change in a future update but I’m not getting my hopes up. As it stands, I have Smooth PEI, Engineering, and Darkmoon CFX plates but none of them use the same temps lol.

After going back and thoroughly reading your comments I was able to fix it.
My issue is that I was editing the file from the MacOS applications folder by “Showing package contents” locating the Json and editing it from there.
The fix was opening BS, navigating to the configuration directory (from the Help menu), making the edits there and saving. For some reason the changes saved and the options reappeared.
Greatly appreciated, your comment saved me some time troubleshooting.
Though I love my BL, this is also something I struggle with. Restricting certain filaments being used in conjunction with nozzle diameters, “So it won’t break the machine.”. Look, I know the main demographic are just regular non-tech-savvy users that don’t want to make their own calibrations and custom profiles, but at least keep the options available, maybe behind a checkmark in preferences.
Now they removed this buildplate option. It truly sucks, lots of projects I do require a smooth buildplate. I even used a dremel to customize my H2D smooth plate so I can use it in my H2C.
Irrational changes with no other reason than â– â– â– â– â– â– â– off the consumer that already bought their product.
Im having trouble finding the file to make this change now. did they change where it is or hide it now? Anyone find it in the most recent BLS version?
