The vast majority of EULA and ToS conditions are completely unenforceable - though this will vary depending on where you are, and the US is close to the worst place to be for this. Forced arbitration, selection of jurisdiction, agreeing to forgo rights granted by law, disclaiming liability - in most places these might as well not exist in the contract, they aren’t legal.
I’m bowing out of this discussion. I liken it to trying to convince a flat earther of the insane stupidity of their model, only to have the same statements thrown out time after time.
In any event…
my reply to them got deleted… but i saw what they said about you
Okay, we all have vented out our… whatever you wanna call it, Bambu’s staff cannt possibly claim not being aware of these reactions, so now it’s time to take action, and by that i mean that each one of us has to review, analyze and decide whether it’s worth taking the risk and upgrade the bloody firmware… or not. Personally, for the time being (that can easily become long term), I will not step into the dark side… of Bambu’s walled garden.
(after all, a jail is a jail, whether one calls it a "walled garden " or a “prison”; the result is the same: you’re in and can’t get out… unless one breaks free)
I’m with you. This move by BL is a deal breaker for me. They sold me a printer with particular functions, but now they want to remove those functions. It’s simply dishonest.
Adding my voice, if BL goes through with this nonsense, I will tell ALL my friends and family to never touch a BL printer.
1000%, couldn’t agree more. I know I’m only one voice, and don’t individually mean anything to BL…but I mean it. I’ve got 3 RatRig printers that will be open till the day I die; I don’t need this closed off garbage and won’t tolerate it. Blocking all internet comms to my BL printer at my firewall, will never upgrade to this new firmware, and will never buy nor recommend any other BL printers to anyone I know.
There are always going to be those who will embrace their SMART city, no amount of explaining will get them to understand that will only happen when it’s too late.
Yeah. When they’ll finally wake up, and discover what they got themselves into, it will be way past the point of no return.
As for what Bambu is now doing to us, does bring up quite a worrisome number of similarities with Orwell’s “1984”.
Thing is, when I’ve bought my X1C I did go through the fine print on their T&Cs, and I know for a fact that I haven’t signed up for this.
I just got my P1S a few days ago and I wish that I had not purchased a Bambu machine. I will certainly avoid buying Bambu’s products from now on.
You can set it to LAN only mode, and block its internet connection using your router’s parental controls. This way you retain all functionality without any worries.
I used to take you seriously but now i know you’re just a troll or deluded
If you’re not using Bambu anymore, go ahead and do so.
Oh I guess I’d better drink my verification can before getting on the treadmill to earn bambu-bux and pay per-metre for my spool to actually feed into the spy camera monitored nozzle am I right?
There are many, many cases of things like this are happening already for many other products. HP 2D printers already monitor how many pages you print and artificially lock you from your ink until you pay them a subscription which covers you for enough pages. I would suggest you read this website for detailed, well-documented articles on how companies are actively doing the things you’re joking about. The articles are complete with terms of service screenshots and other proper references.
Unlike in some places in the world, we are living in a democracy, and due to this fact you are entitled to your opinions, and you are free to express them… So do I!
Whether you see me as a troll or a strongly opinionated user, that’s entirely up to you. Choice is yours to make… So do I!
Wouldn’t have bought a Bambu Lab printer if I knew this would come along.
Listen to us, no one wants this, no one.
If you want no customers, go ahead!
Oh you sweet summer child. DATA is king.
It allows them to run data analytics on large data sets, getting insight on how people print, what they print and how they used their devices.
This provides them with information on how to improve their printers, sure - but more importantly, it gives them critical insight and knowledge about how to modify their services and ecosystem to squeeze more money out of their customer base.
Looks a lot like the community will go back to Prusa Printers being king.
They were before, Bambu shook up the market, but now they’ve made a big mistake.
Prusa 3D Printers will be king again.
Bambu, fix it or expect lose of market share.
Your printers are good. But not good enough when you remove a significant reason as to why they are good.
Also, you use Orca open source software, then block it??
Taking bets on Prusa market share increasing.
you are confused, orca is a fork of bambu studio, not the other way around
edit/ which in turn is a fork of a fork
You’re believing Bambi’s fugazi the orca slicer owner just made a post on his discord the other day that he requested keys and they’re ignoring him But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. We shouldn’t be forced to add an app in the middle of our workflow
A message from Josef Prusa* to al Bambulab user community members:
* this message, should anyone wonder, falls under the 1st Amendment (for the US-based folks, but not limited to them), and is intended as a critical view, and humoristical opinion on Bambu’s new firmware implementation, justification …and rebuttal of its critics.
PS- Should you be inclined to disagree, feel free to do so. I don’t care.
