Just started printing a few months ago, but soley use Orca…if this change goes through and I’m no longer able to use it or it’s severely hamstrung I won’t be purchasing anymore Bambu printers. To be honest it’s not even soley because of Orca, but the principle.
They also said sending in all those policemen was just for security.
Same, I’m worried what I will lose on my A1 Mini!
No body’s gonna read that ■■■■, that’s what the, scroll button to the bottom so the accept button will highlight, is for🤣
I don’t have any X series. Do have a P1s, A1 and A1 mini. I switched them all to lan mode. Logged out of BS and OS and Panda Touch. Seems like the only thing I lost was Handy.
Of course security is crucial. Mandating a cloud connection for purely local operation harms security. It’s very simple. The cloud is a primary attack vector.
This line of reasoning should certainly be accessible to any company who is able to make a functioning 3D printer. If BambuLab nonetheless pretends they don’t understand this, then security is actually not their primary concern. The backlash is completely justified, as the conduct of BambuLab harms users.
Also, note that the printer stops working when the cloud server goes down or is otherwise unreachable. I am not sure if you have considered this, but the printer actually running is also a crucial feature for users. I am sure you could invent a scenario where the printer not operating will lead to someone being seriously harmed.
In fact, I got an x1 carbon because it was advertised as “just works”. Instead, it seems I now have to spend time in online debates to help educate people about the very basics of cybersecurity.
This is not new. This alert has been in place for many months.
Yes but there’s an influx of people looking to install alternatives. Apologies for the multi-posting.
I believe you choose\chose to do this. No ‘have to’ about it.
If the cloud has been breached and security has continued to be an issue for this long, a fix NOW is obviously too late…
The fact of the matter is security is in question. But who’s to say the developers at Bambu lab are anyone of expertise level when it comes to cloud programming and security infrastructure? By the looks of it, the team is novice and seems to be more a waste of resources. The investors should be questioning this team and keeping a close eye on the development.
They’re not - they don’t have a clue what they’re doing when it comes to cybersec. With this change, they are distributing their freaking private key publicly via the Connect app that’s supposed to increase security. This is way worse than amateur hour and the only logical explanation is that increasing security was never the motivation behind this move but a mere afterthought.
How, exactly, were you tricked?
In what way were you duped?
Your lack of understanding does not put the blame on someone else.
You did understand the ToS right?
You did read the ToS right?
You are the one that accepted the ToS right?
You created your BL account, right?
You downloaded and agreed to the terms for BS, right?
You read the previous blog posts hinting and outright warning 3rd party products could lose access right?
If you answer yes, then you weren’t tricked. You had warning.
I’m not arguing a scam. I’m not arguing anything of the sort. I am stating that everyone who is complaining agreed that the ToS could be changed and that 3rd party products could be blocked.
It’s a simple statement that is getting confused with supporting BL.
Wanna play the victim, cool. Just realize you’re wrong in trying to blame BL for changing things on you and this is a surprise. Accept at least some responsibility.
Their TOS basically gives them the rights to do ANYTHING they want at ANY time, which is probably not enforceable in many countries. I don’t think it’s totally fair to throw that at people, because it essentially covers ALL negative and sketchy scenarios and leaves the user with little or no rights.
I mean…
Orca Slicer is like Photoshop compared to MS PAINT which is equivalent to Bambu Studio. This move will kill off Bambu as one of the best 3d printer providers! If i cannot use my X1C with Orca, I will sell it first chance i get and never buy anything Bambu ever again!
I’m not debating fair.
I’m pointing out that it was agreed to.
Period.
Sure, but your point is somewhat moot if the TOS doesn’t allow ANY rights to users.
That’s simply not a valid legal perspective for a business to take. We may have all agreed, but it isn’t legally enforceable.
Says who?
Those aren’t made up off the cuff. Legal pours over those with a fine tooth comb.
At least in the USA, unilateral modification clauses in TOS are considered “illusory and unenforceable” per many court cases. Lowes, Blockbuster…google it.
