P2S Cutting Module coming soon?

So when going through the menus the live view calibration wizard tells you to “remove all external modules from the tool head” removing the fan cover reveals that the new extruder design has wings and a center channel like the H2 series does… so I tried inserting the cutting module… it fits.
It doesn’t sit securely though, but you can close its clamp comfortably. It’s missing something to align is as it seems too capable of wiggling in place a bit.
The laser module does not fit, its clamp has tighter clearances and won’t let you slide it on.

But this begs the question of if a cutter module or cutter module upgrade kit or printed part will allow use of the H2’s cutter.

The heat bed as the same locator marks as the H2’s for optical calibration- so it seems intentional. Especially for the menu mention and the physical design of the toolbar to accommodate clamping parts like this.

As far as I can tell though, there is no place to plug in the cutter module or laser cord, so maybe this is for a different future model that uses the same chassis?

However, the Cuting Module requires BirdsEye Camera and this requires Laser Module to be calibrated. And I doubt this will comme for P2S. So lets see if they manage ist somhow without Laser, which could be then possible…

Could we please make a request to get bambulab to add laser cutter compatibility for the P2S?? I really need this!!

I don’t think that will happen. Bambu doesn’t want to compete with itself. The H series needs unique selling points.

In addition, the dirt and odour produced by this process make it advisable to purchase an additional laser cutter - 3D printing and dirt particles do not mix well. Simply attaching a laser module to the PS2 is not enough; you also need an extraction fan / filter system - Smoke Purifier.

Not to be overlooked is the emergency stop, as well as the appropriate front window for lasers. If you take it seriously, actually also as recommended by bambu, an automatic fire extinguishing system.

…and, as already mentioned, the right camera is missing.

We’re talking about a complete reconstruction, which raises the question of whether you should buy the right device for your needs right away.

For that money, you could get an H2 with the module or a laser cutter like a Creality Falcon A1.

Do you perhaps know anything about lasercutting and if it’s worth it to purchase an open frame desktop laser cutter/engraver? I recently have seen a couple of these online for les than €175 for the whole cutter, and then ofc I would need to purchase an enclosure and air filtration system to prevent a complete mess. But idk what the cons are about purchasing an open framed cutter vs an enclosed one, but I do know the enclosed ones are far more expensive. Do you have any recommendations? I already 3d print for some time know, but don’t know anything about lasercutting.

Do not purchase open frame laser cutter/engraver.

Anything with laser is dangerous. A simple glare of laser beam bounce off the cutting surface could land on your retina and blind you or burn a spot inside your eye → best case scenario, you now have a permanent black spot obstructs your view, worst case, you become a cyclope.

You don’t want to do that to someone else or your pet, do you?

The leaked X2D images show the same slot. My guess is there will be an X2D Laser edition that it will work on.

I strongly recommend getting a dedicated, open frame/gantry laser. I use a Lattitool. It’s an inexpensive 5.5W blue laser device. It’s precise enough for most things, and effective for engraving and minor cutting. The main gotcha is that the free software (LaserGRBL) blows goats. For that, its worth some money to get LaserBurn.

A very slight gotcha is that there are no pointers to the scales on the gantry frame, so you’ll have to print those if you care to know the last head position, but LaserBurn is easily set to advance from home to where your workpiece is, so you don’t really have know the home coordinates, just push the head home before each run. PM me if you want the solid model for the pointer, anyway.

Lastly, it helps to have a way of hooknig a vacuum hose up to draw away the smoke – smoke is the real hazard, not the laser light. It comes with special glasses for that, but do make sure no one has access while cutting other than you, because eye damage happens fast and is irreversible. I also have a model for printing a hole holder.
