P2S: Extruder Overload

Just got my P2S on Saturday and sadly I am kinda disappointed.
It doesnt matter which filament I use - I basically get “extrusion motor overload” on every print. Its especially bad on every PETG Filament (I use Sunlu).

This feels like every designflaw the P1S had (PTFE Tube guide and 35mm riser of Top Glass neccessary) was perfectly implemented into the P2S. I can barely print and have to MANUALLY hold the PTFE tube so i goes perfectly straight into the extruder.
Once a print has started that way it works perfectly fine. I dont know whats causing this or what I could possibly do fix this?

For a new product at nearly 800€ thats jea…these words wont be allowed to say here.

I tried to bushfix this and designed a 35mm riser and removed the cable(PTFE)-tie thats holding down the PTFE tube.
Lets see if that helps in any way.

That is weird. Especially since marketing highlighting a drastic increase in extruder force.
I think it is well worth opening a ticket. Particularly with such a new printer and model.

@man1ac I might be sharing your pain here.

I’m a relative novice to 3D printing but been happily plodding away on an ender3 for years but thought I’d upgrade and took the plunge to by the P2S.

It arrived yesterday and was so simple to get up and running.
I did a couple of simple prints and thought “wow” what a difference.
I starting on the poop tray and a couple of hours in to the print, spaghetti defects and had to stop the print.
The result looked like the start of clogging, so I unloaded/loaded filaments from the AMS unit, recalibrated and tried again with a different poop model but with the same print settings and it failed again at more or less the same height and time of printing.
When you look at them side by side (the failed prints) there were lots of bad layers just before the fail.

So I unloaded/loaded again and tried a different print reel from the AMS unit.
Its new Bambu basic PLA and this time, after a few mins on the first layer, the warning of “The extrusion motor is overloaded [0300-801e012521]” appeared and the printer stopped.

I switched it off after frustration and will have to see what the problem is tomorrow but after reading the BambuWiki, I don’t like the idea of taking the extruder to bits after only 4 prints.
It’s not filling me with confidence and all the excitement of a new (and expensive) printer has gone.

Quite disappointed at the moment.

If anyone has any suggestions on where to start to look for the problem, I would welcome your thoughts.

Yes, all firmware updated and cleaned the nozzles multiple times but was still going wrong so I’ve gone through the extruder cleaning process and cleaned the nozzles out again.

I thought it might be height related so printed something tall and simple after cleaning the extruder and that was OK.
Also tried another print for a about 2.5hours and that was OK.
Lets see what today brings.

Reset printer and format the drive might be a fix as well.

Had a similar issue on the H2D which was caused by the PTFE tube being slightly short.
Which has caused alot of drag on the filament depending on the position of the head. It might be worth checking that as well.

I’m at 30hrs and had two nozzle clogs so far. Using Bambu PLA with Bambu settings. Not too impressed. I checked the extruder gears and everything is fine (no teeth missing or grinding). I had my P1S, 10 months and 2000hrs and had one clog the entire time with basically no maintenance. I certainly hope this isn’t going to be an ongoing problem with this printer.

Sounds like they need more firmware updates or something to get control on the print head dialed in. 2 clogs in 17 pieces using 100% Bambu ecosystem is completely unacceptable.

Yesterdays prints were all OK although they were only about 3 hours each.
It hasn’t (touch wood) played up since I cleaned the extruder and nozzles.
I couldn’t see any missing teeth on the very small gear that grabs the filament but didn’t expect to be doing that within a couple of days.

I would hope that there are more firmware updates fairly quickly once more people are using the printer.
I’d be happy with 2 clogs out of 17, I was at 2 out of 5 in the first couple of days.
Once again, using 100% Bambu stuff everywhere.

I’m having the same issue. I primarily print petg, issue is happening with Overture and Bambulab petg.

Tried different nozzles, tried to reseat the PTFE tube. Tried to dismantle the extruder to see if there was anything clogged, and it was clean.

Sometimes I can get it going again by increasing the temp to 300 and extruding. Super annoying after coming from a p1s with no issues like this.

Support ticket has been opened but so far they’ve only said to try keeping the door open while printing. Guessing it may be a cooling issue with the hotend fan but I have no idea. Might have to go back to the p1s at this rate :frowning:

I completely understand your position. I also reached out to the official support channel with the same issues, and they appeared to be at a loss for a solution. They requested the relevant 3MF files from me for testing, yet ultimately, they were unable to offer any constructive resolution.

Given this experience, I find the price point to be extremely poor value.

Every print I do on the P2S the nozzle is clogging and the extruder overloads. I get it’s a new machine but I’m starting to get really over having to take the extruder apart and back together again on a 3 day old printer…

Similarly, I also disabled all AI functions, including automatic flow calibration.

I got an update (and a support that wanted some videos and pictures).
I removed the silicone sock to make the picture of the hotend they wanted and it seems (please confirm?) that the hotend clamp was not sitting correctly?

the picture here Hotend Replacement Guide for the P2S | Bambu Lab Wiki shows the clamp different. I removed the hotend and put it back with the clamp showing like on the wiki page.

Maybe for @Outis @soupey @Beeman @DanR - please check and get back to me.
I reported this in my ticket and hopefully they wont close it immediately :smiley:

Yes, it is confirmed that the hotend clamp was not correctly closed.

This is the correct way to do it - close the left side of the nozzle clip and secure it by locking the right-side latch.

I encountered the same issue on my P1S where the AMS would repeatedly try to feed filament, then stop and report an error. I even saw many suggested fixture improvements on MakerWorld (MW). Eventually, I discovered that the PTFE tube was not fully inserted into the extruder. After I manually pushed the PTFE tube an extra 0.5 cm into the extruder, everything started working normally.

Truly clogged. Filament is breaking off between the teeth every print, which requires a disassembly of the extruder to clear.
