Reallocation of MakerWorld's points reward system

There is no problem. But you could easily have added those variants in one single model. Doing it like you did clearly is not because you want to “make people happy”, it’s just to make you happy.

i leave this creative idea to you, for one of your models

that may be your subjective opinion…

I actually think it’s not subjective at all, it’s against the Guidelines too. I think you should be glad that these models haven’t been removed yet. I hope that in the future MW will exactly do that and cleanup all those models.

I think it is 2 per printer. I’ve got three printers so BL gave me six boosts to donate.

Ah that helps it makes more sense, I have three printers linked as well. I guess the 7th boost token I have to use may be the weekly one

This will have the OPPOSITE effect. I get the idea that they are trying to promote better and more complex models, but the way this is structured I guarantee you that it will incentivize lots of low quality models.

The pure fact that points drop off a cliff as they get more downloads is the downfall of this system. Printables realized this and their download counter for points resets every month.

Basically I would be better off with 50 uploads all with lower download counts than a couple quality uploads with thousands of downloads each.

I get that the boost tokens are supposed to counter this somewhat, but I don’t see enough value in those (11 points) to offset the points system problem.

You’re also assuming that people will give their boost tokens to complex and niche models. What will inevitably happen is that the niche model members will give their tokens to niche model creators and the vast majority of people will likely give their tokens to fidget spinners. Just watch.

That’s what build plates are for. Just put each version on an extra build plate. Makes it easier and cleaner to navigate for everybody. And what’s the difference between P1P and P1S? They’ve the same toolhead.

And you can only give 5 boosts per year to the same designer. So you better have some followers and not super ultra niche models if you hope get some ^^`

@MakerWorld Now that boosts are introduced it would be great if it could be added as a new alternative for sorting. That way I could find things others have felt worth of a boost which is a very good sign.

Source of that info? Didn’t saw this anywhere.

The description of a Boost could use some clarification just to avoid confusion.

This can be read that 11 points must be spent to convert the boost to a $1 gift card.

Or it can be read that you receive 11 points by cashing in the boost.

I think its the latter, in which case the following would be a little clearer.

“You can redeem this Boost to receive 11 points, which is equivalent to a $1 gift card pre tax”

This cripples top contributors to the community.

Firstly, MW deserves credit for taking actions to improve.

Now some concerns:

  1. Users of the niche and complex models may not be as active as users of “trendy” models. So they may receive fewer boost tokens, or even none, other than the one-time upfront 2 tokens.
  2. Niche or complex models suffer low rewards because it’s entirely up to the general user base which is heavily influenced by crowd mentality and rewards trendy models. The boost system also entirely relies on the same users, who may only boost trendy models just because many people have boosted them and they want to join the crowd.

So there is a possibility that the boost system as proposed now may not reduce the gap between simple quick-printing models and niche or complex models, or worse, widen the gap. I suggest MW keep monitoring the performance of the boost system well after the 2 initial tokens have been used and make adjustments or even big changes if needed to achieve the intended goal.

DING DING DING! This. The way it is structured now incentivizes low quality models. It’s the exact opposite of what they’re saying theyre trying to do.

You nailed it, emmaginn.

Go for your life and pump low quality models out then. If rewards are what validates your 3d printing well…

I’m not saying that I will do that. I’m simply stating that that is what the new point system incentivizes–which is the opposite of their stated goal. It’s meant to be constructive. Not sure a flippant response was necessary.

Wasn’t entirely flippant, I jest yes. But honestly the points system is always going to be screwed towards someone and it will never be fair. I have fairly basic models and can tell you I’ve got no hint of an increase, I’m not complaining as this is not what I’m here for. If points are a concern, you do what needs to be done to get them, I don’t see the issue.
