Reallocation of MakerWorld's points reward system

I’m not complaining. Again, I’m just pointing out that if their goal in revamping the reward system is to reward more complex/niche models over low quality models, I think they got it wrong. I’m also not complaining that the reward system is less generous (it obviously is and we all knew it would come down at some point). I’m just saying that it incentivizes low quality models even more than the previous system.

I think the intent is to reward “good quality” models, regardless if they are simple, or complex, or niche. It tries to narrow the reward gap between good quality niche models and good quality simpler popular models.

In a way, it makes sense. A model shouldn’t be getting more reward just becuase it’s complex (the definition of which will be a very long heated debate). A lously produced complex model is as bad as a bad simple model, if not worse due to more waste of filaments and printing time.

Whether or not it can achieve that goal is another story. But I don’t see how low quality models can be rewarded under this new change.

It is so ironic, with this new system it took me over a week to have enough to get a gift card (used to be 2 days or so) but I decided to redeem the points and wammo, I have the iconic 7 day hold to review points.

Still get that every week even with the huge reduction in points obtained. Makerworld is at least consistent there.

Just wanted to add a data point here with regards to how the points have been affected with my models. They’ve essentially gone to zero lol. Here’s a screenshot where it shows I got a decent amount of downloads and prints, and they’ve gone up over the past three days, but my points have decreased every day instead of going up like they have in the past.

Personally, I think these new measures that have been implemented to stop bots are affecting normal users way too much. It’ll be interesting to see what the uptake is on the new contests. My guess is there will be more low effort entries than really unique and inspirational models.

same here… downloads went way down since like 2 weeks now its just sad, barely 50 points today… I see some models like mine cheaper version of it only renders now top models… my flower vase I worked a long time and did a lot of trial and errors before I get perfect cads models of them. now people do cheap version of it. not even an actual cad with 100% export quality. #1 models… same for my bambu scraper… it got popular within 2 months almost beat the one bambu made, but the one i made went in the door handle and I think is very very handy when you want it fast reach and just want to take the purge line off… now my models went terrible in DL … this model used to get at least 100points for per day at least
so yeah its sad for all the energy we put in I think… even if it was rewarding… yeah it was. but what about now ? what about the future ??

didn’t do any new models in the last month … but still …
:face_with_monocle:

Maybe this is what they want … more models … doesn’t matter what / how … more models, not to get revenue from same old models. And i don’t blame them. I was getting points without doing new models.
If I look at printables … even if I get 10000 downloads of a model in one month …it’s the same as getting 400 downloads. Anything over 400 is pointless.

I believe downloading without login is just wrong. That should be reversed, it benefits no one, not even MW in terms of cost saving, not leveraging all these models uploaded to convert users or even get their emails is just foolish. Doesn’t this make analytics meaningless?

Like others, since the change I’ve not gotten any points at all. Hugely demotivating.

The good thing about MW system before was I would happily share models I know wont be popular because even at low levels of downloads the points would drip in. Several of these and you have a little stream of points as reward for helping others. That is one thing I hate about Printables. The same models on printables which may help a few people will never generate any points.

@Tanklet

Wait, what? I’m not sure what’s happening here. I’m confused. Also, I lost my mood ring and I’m not sure how I feel about that.

This benefits Makerworld in terms of lower barriers to entry, potentially leading to an expansion of their user base and key metrics. Such growth is pivotal for their overall valuation.
One might argue that, in the long run, this could potentially benefit all creators by possibly driving an uptick in registered users if successful conversions ensue. However, it’s worth noting that I am not endorsing this approach; personally, I find it frustrating that Makerworld continually introduces new mechanisms that manipulate statistics. Setting aside the point rewards system, when I look at the analytics dashboard, I find myself confronted with numbers that seem devoid of significance.

The launch of the boost program aligns with the same objective, imho. Beyond merely amassing a sizable user base, ensuring their active engagement is paramount. Metrics such as daily and monthly active users serve as fundamental yardsticks for valuing any community-centric platform. By imposing a validity period on boost coins, the aim is to encourage bi-weekly logins for coin redemption. Another evident rationale is that a substantial portion of coins may expire unused, thereby allowing the platform to maintain the appearance of a stable budget. However, it’s worth noting that while this analysis reflects operational strategies typical in business, it’s not intended as criticism.

Something does seem a bit further off though. Yesterday I only got 6 points. The 16th, it was around 400ish.

Did the boost you received make up that difference, somewhat?

I got zero points yesterday and 6 today. usually I got ~50-150. I received 9 boost since yesterday. so this doesn’t compensate. but as stated before - we all knew that the times where coming. the goldrush is over :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems comparable to your average with the boosts added. 99+6 is between your 50-150.

not really. I think these are the early days where still some users have boosts available.
50 was the min. on average I had ~100 points a day. ~5 days for a voucher.

I think over time the daily base will be ~20 points. even lower. 0-6 points via downloads / prints and boosts by random.

Ehhh, kind. That’s what I’m curious about, the long term of all of this. I think a lot of boost got handed out on the first day, so it’s hard to know if things balance out to pre-boost levels or not. Been waiting to see what others have been experiencing, and how the days play out.

Yeah I think the highest earning days are behind us. I just got my dad into it all, and he’s been earning some points, but he came into it just as things were changing. He’s doing some awesome work, so it kind of sucks for him! He’s still enjoying himself though, so I’m not sure he’s too phased by it all. Haha.

I’m ok with the gold rush ending but I’m really bothered by not counting all the data. Everything should be recorded in the analytics, regardless if they’ll convert to points or not. I think everyone here wants to know how many times their designs had been downloaded and printed.

yep - you’re right. I also had that drop ~3 weeks ago where the number of downloads decreased heavily. As a developer I know that the complexity behind that model can be hard to maintain. I think the first approach was to reduce the bot downloads. …and now it’s a bug due to the overall system changes. I hope it will be fixed soon…
