Yes, the rod scratches are normal and totally fine.

The motors do wind down eventually and go to a sleep state (but somehow inconsistent due to the firmware), after a quite inconsistent long time. Even though, it’s working fine, no mechanical issues, just annoying. They’re working on firmware updates to make it less annoying.

I believe the only servo is for the extruder. Everything else is just stepper motors managerd by cameras and tapping the nozzle/carriage. I would be shocked if the servo has power when not in use.

I find it very strange that those scratches are ok for a precision polished bearing surface my prusa machines rods were all spotless

what I don’t understand about the vortek motor is it doesn’t make the noise when it’s printing. And the noise is loud I can hear it in the other room throughout the closed printer door and door to the room

I just meant run the machine hard. Get your money out of it. If it breaks bug support and they will send you fix it parts. I had very good luck doing that myself. I ran thousands of hours of ABS and such, when something broke I was sent parts with minimal back and forth.

I’ve seen the powder machines. Mainly HP stuff, I wouldn’t want it in my home. That powder seems like a bigger health hazard then the resin stuff. FDM really is the best gig for home, tough parts, minimal residue in my shed, cheap to feed raw materials. Some of the cmyk uv stuff is interesting but It isn’t really affordable for a backyard warrior yet.

As for your tool head noise, keep an eye on the cooling fan those are known to be a design weakness and they can scream when the bearings start to go.

I don’t have any noises in the tool head as of yet, just the drive motor for the Vortek nozzle changer and the power supply cooling fan

Interesting. Maybe print a few of those starry night vases and see if the vortek motor survives.

PSU sucks. They wouldn’t warranty it with a video showing the noise issue?

  • This applies to standard axles xyz: Stepper motors are known to make noise. That’s the holding current. It needs a holding current; constantly turning it off would be counterproductive. Without the holding current, it cannot maintain its position.

  • The Induction Hotend Rack Motor is a servo motor. These make noises too, but for different reasons: They result from active position control and electrical actuation. Here, too, it’s normal for them to make noise when they’re not moving, since they also have to maintain their position - in this case, via PWM.


In short, there is no sleep mode because the motors either maintain their holding force or transmit / keep position. It is important that they are not constantly turned on and off, but rather continuously supplied. The motor may not be moving, but it is still working: it is maintaining its position and applying force to hold that position.

Some are quieter, others are louder.

That’s why you can’t move the motors by hand once the printer is turned on. They try to hold their position even when stationary.


To know for sure, though, it would take a video or audio recording.

I had that same problem, but I found a workaround.

Servos generally hate being left on. I did not know the rack ran on one. Wouldn’t the up down motion before a print be that servo turning back on and rehoming itself?

It depends; that’s probably the only correct answer. First, you’d have to know whether it’s really the servo causing the noise or some other motor. Remote diagnosis is tricky.

If the rack is in constant use, it is actually better to keep the servos supplied with power at all times. However, it’s difficult to make a general statement because we currently lack information about when the noise occurs, how it sounds and whether it’s actually the servo.

So, based on what we know right now, all I can say is: It depends

Turning it on and off constantly isn’t exactly good for the servo, but those things last forever anyway. We’re talking about a minimum lifespan of 20 years. A servo motor typically lasts 20,000 - 30,000 operating hours.

Ok so you are telling me that you are A OK with a printer that is less than a month old and has had multiple issues and part swaps? Really? I worked i the service industry for 30 years I know stuf breaks but usually you get to enjoy it for over a month. And I am just going to say it, you folks have been programmed to be like these machines just break deal with it…. That is a load of crap. Would you be ok with taking your brand new TV out of the box to find it broken then take it back (which Bambu won’t do) to get another broken one and another… I VERY much doubt that.

So you been cursing your machine? WHY? as you say just deal with it. I find it very funny how you Bambu Boys Fly the flag, I don’t expect a machine to not beak I have no issues with replacing worn out parts, BUT when you cannot enjoy the machine for any length of time that is unacceptable. Oh I want solutions, how about all you Bambu Boys tell me why this extruder won’t feed from the external spool auto BUT when i taake the PTFE tube from the top of the extruder and manually feed it it works. I will be waiting for the solution OK

Well maybe since it appears lots of folks are having issues with their printer maybe posting on here will light a fire under more folks ■■■ to contact customer support. Or we can be like you and just tke the beating. I have 3 Flashforge printers (The Company replaced mine 2 times and never wanted the units back) I paid 350 bucks for it. That said I buy this machine supposed to be this great printer and it’s not. You say Bambu does not read these posts, maybe they should would be a great idea for a company to achieve customer service, but then folks like you just take the beating.

LOL really sounds more like you just bring up the rear. So you think that it’s a known Issue how bad these machines work? Ok why does Bambu just be honest and state these are hobby machines they will require lots of tinkering and parts replacements AND you ewill have to fix them yourself even under warranty. If that stated that no issues I know what I am buying and what to expect, but when you claim it is just press the button and watch out that is not honest,

And what is the difference, this machine is advertised to be a complete production machine. There are lots of folks using this machine in print farms to make money. I don’t see that it matters.

That’s news to me…. my CNC has steppers and they don’t make a sound holding…but then it’s probably me.

I had a Prusa CORE ONE, and basically had a range of issues with it from day 1. I’d contacted support on a number of occasions and kept all the videos of it doing weird stuff.

If course on the Prusa groups everything was positive, and support were amazing, but still different things would keep causing issues.

Luckily being from the UK I have rights about it not being fit for purpose so I contacted the supplier who had no issues with me returning it for a full refund, even at 5 months in.

Now I’m not saying Prusa is bad at all, my take is I got a Friday afternoon build, and it happens.

I now have a BL H2C and it’s awesome and just works, so far zero issues other than a couple of maintenance warnings - and my honest take is the H2 series is a better printer ( I just wish it had Prusa support and open source ecosystem )

The moral of my story is if it’s gone wrong (electrical or mechanical parts failing) in the first few months of normal hobby use then send it back! If you are up for another then have it replaced, or get something different like I did.
