I get almost double Max volumetric flow going from .4 stock to .6 Obxidian - I realize there are two factors at work here, but it’s pretty dramatic. Keep in mind, flow rate is usually the limiting factor, but once you have high-flow, speed settings and acceleration become the limiting factors - you can only push these so far without loosing quality. You will print faster with an HF nozzle, but not as fast as it may appear just from flow increases.
I agree, but I would add cooling and heating to the list, especially with smaller prints.
Yes, what I recollect from a year ago was that even with a regular 0.6mm nozzle on my X1C, flow wasn’t what was holding the printer back. Something else was preventing higher speeds while still retaining high print quality. So much so that there seemed to be no advantage over using a 0.4mm nozzle, so I reverted back to 0.4mm and haven’t re-tried 0.6mm since then.
However, since that time a year ago, though, a number of new, “high speed” filaments have become available. e.g. Bambu’s PETG-HS, as well as a number of “high speed”, “turbo”, “rapido”, “fast” PLA’s, PETG’S, and ABS’s from other filament vendors like Sunlu, eSun, Creality, Elegoo, Overture, Qidi, Flashforge, and others. Does upgrading to any of those high speed filaments yield any kind of improvement in effective print speed (while maintaining print quality) when using a 0.6mm nozzle? In general, I found that they did help in that regard, at least with a 0.4mm nozzle.
In the cases of Creality and Qidi, I get the impression they more or less had to develop those high speed filaments so as to have a guaranteed way of demonstrating the newer, higher prints speeds of their flagship 3D printers.
Good points.
I do see a speed improvement - I use mostly things like ASA-GF (Siraya Tech). With the .4 stock nozzle The volumetric speed test in orca slicer, yielded about 14.5 mm^3/s. With the .6 Obxidian I got 30. 14.5 is low enough that the volumetric is really holding things back. So in this kind of case, I really did see a speed improvement in printing. If I was using a high-speed filament instead of an engineering filament, I might not have seen any improvement that I could use.
I have suspicion that cooling may be what’s holding back the speeds. With the auxiliary fan mounted on only one side, extra cooling is inherently asymmetric., which you can sometimes see the results of when printing faster than usual high speed benchies.
Normally I really don’t watch any videos about Creality at all, but this one was so funny to watch and shows that I won’t have to look at any in the future.
Especially the statement that a printer that is specifically designed for carbon only delivers printing plates that can print PLA-CF only. Well, there are things that will never ever change.
And the statement about the fillament holder that you can print yourself for side mount - thank you, I’m not the only one! I’m even of the opinion of an missing AMS Riser out of the box for an X1C is an indicator of laziness in a company and what we can expect in the future.
Hi Streetsport,
Yes you have, as well as 2 fans on the print head. The Printhead is a split desinge (the line I once asked for is a separation. Perfect would be if it could be demoted quickly, but at least it’s a start).
Some screws are only mounted in the plastic (aux fans, fillamentholder?) - some QC assembly errors were discovered, the macro for the Fillamentcut is still causing problems - or the cutter itself. This may can become a problems with the upcoming AMS.
I’m still puzzling a little bit about a part next to the pressure nozzle - is it a cabizative sensor like on a Kobra 2 - weren’t they also used as a spaghetti warning on the Kobras?.. Well, we’ll see.
For sure a serious printer - I’m really looking forward to the videos after Christmas, then it will probably go into the shopping cart.
So, now I’m getting really jealous… I want to be able to tinker with it too!
Well done
They really lost the entire retrofit business - for some companies that have been on the market for a long time, this accounts for up to 80% of sales. It’s simply more likely that someone will upgrade something after 1-2 years than buy something completely new.
Ali Wong parodies her culture really perfectly - e.g. keeping a friend just because she has a lemon tree
Sorry to bring back the discussion on topic
I was really waiting for a new BL large(r) printer, there have been some information in the summer about it - but now everything seems in stand-by.
I think BL has been hardly “hit” by the launch of QiDi PLUS 4 large printer, with much better qualities on paper and consistently lower selling price for the printer only unit compared to X1C (799€ vs 1249€) here in EU.
It turns X1E in oblivion and makes even the X1C a hard decision now. I am really anxious to see the BL response … but nothing seems to be prepared
…and the next one will follow after
I wouldn’t bet all my money on Q4 launch…though, i might be proven wrong…
Q1 2025 by their own admission…
That’s fine too.
Theoretically, I would be interested in that too. But with the A1, things like this take a long time, so you may have to use the current planning to eliminate the problems and if you lose 4-8 months on one thing, you will also lose 4-8 month on the other thing. Stories like this also make you extremely cautious, then the new one will be tested for a few additional months- when you suddenly see the costs, you’ll be extremely cautious next time.
Of course the QIDI is painful, but I often say, decide which death you want to die. In addition, you will always be behind with a product from time to time - the question is not who will win the battle, but the war. e.g. Nokia vs. Appel finaly Android/Google won.
They could also perhaps become more cautious, as there strategy with the Bed Slingers has certainly worked, but the differentiation from the Core XY has may been also recognized in the market more than aspected.
They also differentiate themselves because they have customers who look very closely - the others also have their customers and everyone has to decide for themselves what counts. I think those who only rely on color changes - they won’t be able to keep them in the long term. At some point Creality and Anycube will get them back with some compromises elsewhere which are not detected from persons how do not look thats close - it’s all just a question of time.
Than Stratasys v. Bambu Lab. How much meat there is on the bone - well we’ll see. Plus if they get this through in the USA, it won’t stay in the USA. Growing quickly can be dangerous - for me, Makerworld is simply too aggressive an approach which can bring too many opponents who also have rights. Slowing down a little might not be the stupidest idea at this point too. Of course such stories also can end be getting Acquired but than less you have to cut off, the more you get for the company if you need to sale.
But in general, everything is absolutely normal - nothing out of the ordinary, just so much that you won’t find an answer to it.
There’s a story, I don’t know if it’s true:
An employee just lost $10,000 and has to go to the boss. After being yelled for an hour, he asked the boss, am I fired now? The boss replied: Why, I just invested an hour and $10,000 in you, if I get a new one I have to do it again.
So Q4/24 becomes, as I’ve (sort of) predicted, Q1/25… but given their previous “launch history”, I’d guess they mean Q2/25, and that only if they won’t rush things up… (funny justification though “polishing” their new printer, ha…)
In that regard, worth pointing out what they say
So it’s "next year " not “Q1/25”.
To be seen.
The 2024 flagship has been pushed to Q1 2025, omg I can’t wait!! Also a new complete motion system repair & replacement kit was announced.
That motion system looks like a great base for a DIY Pick and Place or laser engraver… Wonder what the pricing will be like.
The answer to your question is clearly stated
Definitely high priced, above the current price range they charge for the X1C or E
I was referring to pricing of the the replacement motion system.
I do not know who are the “prosumers who demand cutting-edge performance”. The 3D printing is not really used in the aeronautical industry, nor in automotive for serial production… who are really the individuals with deep pockets queued at BL’s door waiting for a “rocket” 3d printer?
On the other hand there are millions of users like me - hoping for timely enhancements and top performance from a trustworthy producer, of course in a decent price range - something like an easy to make X1C Plus.
If BL desconsider my wishes I am absolutely sure there will be another company - in fact it is already out there, selling that product that fulfills my wish list…
You are a “prosumer”, like everyone else, or like most of us are, whether you sell or simply use (or distribute/share) the products you create by using a 3d printer that you’ve acquired. That’s the basic definition of a prosumer.
In what regards where the 3d printing is used, besides the R&D of most industries, both the aerospace and automotive industries do use them for prototypes and proof of concepts. True, it’s not used for mass production (that’s where Stratasys printers ,and others like it, come in play), but it’s used nevertheless. And you’ll be surprised to learn that there are out there plenty of people willing and ready to spend their hard earned money for top notch 3d printers (just think of the Apple users spending thousands of $ or €, or £ for the latest iPhone version, though besides a newer software version and modified camera layout, doesn’t bring anything new or innovative to the table, yet people are buying, Apple from which BL adopted its business model.
Though I’m not considering myself a real prosumer, should the next gen BL 3d printer prove to be a better answer to my needs (quality, reliability, maintenance and material use wise), if I find the price justified (and affordable) for what I get in return, I might consider purchasing a new one … or maybe not … We’ll just have to wait and see if this famed, long awaited for, 2nd gen printer will bring breakthrough innovation and deliver according to most users expectations.
Now, if I translate it back and forth with Google Translate:
Prosumers are consumers who are also producers, or producers who also act as consumers.
cutting-edge / Peak performance, innovative and up to date.
