Terrible first experience with the P1S and AMS 2 Pro, help welcome

Hi,

I have setup a brand new P1S with ans AMS 2 Pro and so far it has only been a nightmare. I pulled the trigger on this because of all the positive comments on Internet about “it just works” but so far I am truly disappointed. I have been 3d printing for several years so not a total newb.

For the moment I have removed the AMS 2 since it does not work. i.e. it is not even able to push filament to the buffer (does not matter which position in the AMS) and this is basic PLA that comes with the printer. Reading this forum it seems I am not the only one suffering with the new AMS 2… I have opened a support ticker for this one.

My other problem is that I am unable to get a good print (using an external spool), similar to what this person experienced in the following post except that I have triple checked my setting and everything seems correct. I have upgraded my nozzle (with entire hotend) and filament drive to hardened steel and the nozzle still remains a 0.4

This person had a similar result but different fix https://forum.bambulab.com/t/calibration-prints-look-horrific/165632

I have tried both printing a calibration print and a print which came on the SD card and had to interrupt both. At least the poor printing seems consistent but I must clearly be missing something !!

This is an attempt of a flow calibration print.

This is the bed scraper printing directly from the SD Card in the printer.

I have used the 0.20mm Standard @BBLX1C for the calibration print and the other print uses whatever it was sliced with but according to Bambu readme all the prints on the SD Card can be done with PLA…

There must be something fundamentally wrong as in my understanding it should just print.

Any ideas or similar experiences most welcome.

Thanks for listening to my venting … sorry but I have spent too much time on this already.

Thanks,
Serge

If you perform a factory reset and print the benchie from the SD card do you get similar results?

It looks to me like your K value and flow is WAY off…

What filament are you using?

Hello,

Thanks, I will give the factory reset a try. I am printing green Bambu PLA basic which was delivered with the printer.

@JonRaymond

Thank you very much a factory reset solved my problem, how the printer got into that state during initial setup is beyond me and I certainly was not expecting it.

Now on to my AMS 2 issue … my gut feel is that there is too much friction on the 550mm PTFE tube from the AMS to the buffer. Or then the brushless motor in the bottom of the AMS 2 unit it not working properly.

Kind Thanks,
Serge

Double check that the 550m PTFE tube can feed filament through it by removing and manually inserting filament. If the end isn’t miss formed then my guess is that perhaps it may not have seated correctly in the AMS connector and the filament is catching at the entry port.

The thing is that the filament does not even make it to the buffer connection. I can see the filament through the tube and it makes it like 200mm to 280mm before the AMS pulls it back.

I will try and manually feed the filament through the PTFE tube to get an idea of the force required.

Are the filament spools rolling smoothly in the AMS? Is it happening in all locations?

Hi,

Yes and it happens in all locations :frowning:

2 things I ran into when I first set up my P1S and AMS

  1. In the AMS there was a piece of nice fitting black foam at the filament feeder nozzle aray and none of the set-up info I had access to said anything about it or showed it in the pictures. I almost left it in but looked at it and figured it was just for shipping and would cause issues because it would rub on the spools and front rollers.
  2. I didn’t have the tube seated well in the back of the AMS and when it would feed filament instead of the filament sliding thru the tube it would just push the tube away from the AMS.

Probably not your issue but thought I would put it out there just in case.

I just bought a PS1 yesterday and was having the same issues. The factory reset seems to have fixed my problems! This is my first printer and I can finally get excited after two days of trouble shooting! Thank you!

Fixed my problems too! Thanks!

I just got a P1S and all of my first attempts to print looked identical to your photos. I was getting blobs everywhere and first layers were incomplete. I was trying to run calibration steps with no success. Your post was my gateway to finding a solution. I tried a factory reset and now it works. . Thanks…

Glad this has helped others. This may not be the case for everyone but I did play around with both Bamboo Studio and Orca slicer. Seems the K value is not handled the same which may be a contributing factor per this video.

Wondering how many of you experiencing the same problem toyed with Orca slicer…
