The new "Home" for profiles

From now on you can choose with a switch whether you want to display reviews or not.

Overall I have to say that they responded quickly to the criticism and provided an appropriate solution.

now they just need to make the stats (followers, boost etc.) a little nicer

That’s good but Tanklet said we’d be able to choose which makes to show there and as it stands currently it’s just a toggle - either all in or all out. I would love to be able to show and highlight makes I chose, just like he promised it would be available. (Also - it’s still repurposing of data, fortunately with opt-in)

I await further developments and patiently wait for Tanklet to answer my question and take my suggestions into consideration

Ohhhhhh yeahh. I enjoyed the achievements part. That was one of the fun parts of the site. Actually here on the forum we get a little off that too, and it delights me.

I’ve been away from my computer for several days, but I love the conversation around the home page topic, as it’s something that we’ve wanted for a while on MakerWorld. As always, I’m thankful that the team at MakerWorld listened to our request to pin models and create a more curated home page. Being able to pin models and change their order from time to time will allow us to highlight some of our favorite models, which might otherwise be buried in lists sorted by upload date or downloads.

Sharing Makes

I agree with @Josh-3D that people might make many prints they want to share with the designer and others who might print the model, but might not necessarily satisfied with the photo quality to share it on their home page. Therefore, having the ability to share your make directly to your “Makes” from the review page would be great. This would also make non-designer pages more engaging, as you could see what they are making and their community posts, helping those users feel even more included in the maker community.

Recent Models

I recommend having the recent models list permanently expandable to show all models, just as it works today on the 3D models tab. This way, makers can choose to pin models or organize collections in horizontal scrolling groups, while maintaining the default list that uses lazy loading for seamless scrolling at the bottom.

Achievements

This is a great addition to the site and adds credibility to the designer’s page. To enhance the non-designer experience, we might consider adding achievements for community posts that gain significant likes, the number of print-makes shared, etc. Curious if others have ideas for other badges or awards?

I really like the achievements idea and it’s interesting to think of options that could incentivize positive behavior (and not encourage negative behavior - always a challenge). There could even be a counter next to some achievements of a user given the award multiple times. A few brainstorming ideas:

  • Boost Streak: boosted X models without letting any boosts expire.

  • Review Streak: provided reviews with photos for X makes in a row.

  • Engagement Streak: engaged with the community for X straight days. (This could count Community engagement, reviews, comments, boosts etc.)

  • Responsive: has responded to over X% comments on their uploads.

  • Popular Model: achieve a popular model tag on one of your uploads. (I don’t know if these are collected anywhere on MakerWorld but it’s the little fire icon displayed on some models on the homepage. It seems to be similar to ‘featured’ but just driven by performance metrics?)

  • Consistent: maintain an average rating over X stars for your print profiles. (The intent for this one is that it isn’t dependent on a high volume of engagement but would be good to recognize for designers who are getting started and doing great work)

  • I think this next one is a bad idea as currently stated but would like to consider if there’s a way to implement it without encouraging bad behavior: an award for submitting good reports. Essentially, those that are accepted and result in action. This could be problematic because we wouldn’t want to encourage over-reporting.

  • Days since blob of death on hot end
  • Number of times designer was blamed for user not cleaning plate
  • Months past doctors predicted date of death (I want one just for me)

Maybe even highlighting achievements as part of user profile cards shown in various places on the site? Rough mockup:

That’s a lot of achievements!

All of the ones that you’ve listed out @MaKim would be great to have, except for the reporting one. You’re correct that it would get abused and it may be better if more of the bad behavior was handled upstream through automated reporting and flagging instead of the community needing to submit as many tickets.

I strive to respond to all inquiries, so having a responsive achievement would tell newcomers to your page that you’ll help them with any issues they have.

Other achievements:

  • X Top Trending Models - Number of times a model was in the top trending position.
  • Test Pilot - printed X number of models before other makers on a given model. This would encourage folks to print models that haven’t had any prints yet, if that makes sense.

What a dirty prank! I thought they finally gave me the green check mark I covet so much. I’m shaking an angry fist at you @MaKim

I liked how you incorporated a nudge about this into your valentine’s model

While I gave :+1: to Ozark’s post to this part:

I need to say: HELL NO. The “community” is still a landfill, despite MW’s several attempts at encouraging it’s use. There were and still are numerous calls to better moderate that space.

Also, regarding @MaKim’s proposed achievements - I dislike “streak” type achievements, especially with younger audience. It promotes addictive behaviours.

I wonder how would that look like - I only respond to ratings and comments that said something. A person rated 5 stars and said nothing? I just “like” the review. 4 stars and say nothing - “well, ok then” and I also do nothing. 3star and below require users to put SOMETHING so I can respond to those :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d call it “high quality”

:mega: SNITCH AWARD :mega:

This one not only would encourage over-reporting, but would probably attract actual trolls. May those reporting simply enjoy their “Report successful” thanks in peace.

This is currently incentivized via prioritizing points for first 5 ratings on a profile, but wouldn’t be a bad achievement. I’d probably get a lot of those  (that is if Bambu Connect won’t be necessary to run BambuStudio prints)

One thing I really liked about the achievements on Printables was that certain achievements unlocked a special model, only downloadable by those whose have earned that specific achievement.

Reminds me of an office I use to work in. I swear several of my coworkers struggled with that achievement.

How many you at? I’m on 38

Actually this is an amazing idea

“Printed a new model with under X number of prints, while providing a Written Reciew, Rate, and Photo”

Maybe even a minimum review length (not crazy, but not like “Good!” Or “A+” either)

How do we get the check mark?

Yes. There will be more achievements later.

Dammit, just over a year. I wanted one for myself.

This is not a normal verification, it is designed to say “This is the genuine owner of this name across all platforms.”

It does NOT say your identity is verified.
