The woes or printer profile ratings

“Hello dear user. I advise you to open the nearest window and carefully throwing your printer through that same window, paying attention if there’s anyone bellow. Be sure to see if the printer got destroyed in the process. Also, don’t ever buy a printer and instead buy the already 3d printed products and support the creators. Yours sincerely, with love and hate at the same time”

For basically all these ‘goofy’ ratings if it brings the average of the profile below 4, I report it. Otherwise my procedure is to simply roll my eyes and carry on.

“Hi, can you show photo of what happened? Or describe if you don’t have a photo? I can help you with the print, but I need to know what happened.”

If they don’t reply in sensible timeframe (say a week) then report the rating as pure BS.

Bragging.

Look at me, I have two working eyes!

You are lucky I don’t take offence at such anti-disabled rhetoric.

I’m so cynical now, I’ve given almost verbatim this response so many times and gotten about 1 in 10 even even responding, and of those there’s been almost entirely the ones lording their rating over my head like it’s a punishment for daring to even question them in the first place… I’ve yet to have a single one of these be productive, but I do have to admit past isn’t always prologue, it just makes me want to scream is all. Lol

reporting them used to work but @MakerWorld sides with the abusers now

We all know that’s not going to work

This is my typical MO for this stuff. I have enough stuff going on, that it’s easy enough to tell if an issue is wider spread, or just a personal issue. I try and keep an eye out for overall issues though and if someone is needing help.

Ahh, I’ve gotten a few more negative comments lately. More so comments than ratings. I wonder where some of this comes from.

Like what do you even say? (I’m sorry for your experience - is what I did say)

This may sound funny but what is the purpose of rating system. What does it tell me when i want to download a model/profile?

I usually make my own designs (functional model). When my wife or sons ask for an organic model instead of wasting time to design them i just search model repositories. What I will find will be more than they were asking for. Also better than what i can design as I suck at organic models and Blender. When i make such searches in MV, it finds hundreds of models. There is no sorting options for “top rated”, “top boosted”, “most downloaded” “most printed” etc. There is no models per page option either. I have to scroll down hundreds of models. If your model is at #976, I am sorry i will not see it even if it was rated 6 stars. I usually fed up around #150.

And what does that rating tell me. Nothing. I saw so many models with 4.8+ ratings that are made by MV’s Makerlabs tools ie bookmarks. Upload a pic and Makerlab will do it for you. Design difficulty:0 Print difficulty:0 Profile (does not matter):0. So this does not feel fair to someone who had spend days to design something then spend days and lots of filaments to test the design and the profile.

Another thing i realize is; we are rating a profile but the system does not verify if we actually printed it with that profile. I have P1S. If the profile is for A1 or X1, BS changes some of the parameters to default when I choose P1S as my printer. Same thing when i use different filament. But I can still rate that profile.

IMHO, Instead of 5 start rating, there should be a short questionnaire. Depending on how many questions you tick yes model will receive a score. Also We should be able to sort/ filter models based on these scores.

In theory it should tell you how “pritable” the print profile is.

While there’s no “top rated” there are several sort options that you do mention:

I hate “infinite scroll” with a passion. But someone some time thought it was a good idea and here we are.

See - even if the profile is for A1 and you print on P1 via bambu handy, the system changes those params for you automagically and that’s ok. In bambu studio, you have waaaay more control and indeed some changes make the profile unfairly hard to print and then to properly rate… That’s a limitation of the print profile rating system that was called out multiple times already and needs to be called out till properly fixed.

Yes and no. For print profiles that does make sense (questionaire) however there’s a distinction between print profile and model - Bambu wants good print profiles allowing people good out-of-the-box printing experience, the models themselves are rewarded by likes, collects, boosts, downloads and prints (where download and prints are gathered with the help of decent print profiles)

That was my point when i wrote “What does it tell me when i want to download a model/profile?” We both agreed on profiles can change and rating a profile does not necessarily be direct evaluation of that particular profile. And as in my bookmark example made with Makerlab, there is not much room for the profile to fail with such a model. I am sure ppl rate high as they like the pic embossed on them.

With specific questions we can clearly show our appreciations to the design and designer at the same time we can reflect our experience with the profile. It then outputs different scores for each like, Design usefulness and printability. Think of game review ratings. Different ratings for different categories. When i read the comments under the models, ppl usually complain about parts did not fit or model did not satisfied their “specific” need. So this is a clear indication that they do not rate based on printability of the profile.

@MakerWorld sided with this low rater so make sure you insert a clean your bed gcode to your designs

That’s concerning. Very concerning.

:man_shrugging: I think I gather what they’re trying to say, but I replied asking if they could elaborate a week+ ago and they never replied. I’m so sick of these drive by shootings essentially. They most likely used an STL or overrided the 3MF settings and complain something’s wrong with the model… 30,000 thirty thousand successful prints and nope, they’re all morons the model is bad. WTH?! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

This should be disqualifying for rating: if user doesn’t respond to designer (and the designer isn’t dismissive of user’s concerns like some GREATEST DESIGNERS EVER (not you AeonJoey, you’re good :slightly_smiling_face: )) then rating should be removed/changed to comment at best.

Also the rating itself is evidence of tampering with profile to make it inoperable - there’s clear customization in the profile made deliberately to create “grille to let the air pass” and user saying it’s missing is clearly in the wrong.
