Custom Filaments not syncing to AMS

I’ve already read the Bambu wiki that explains how you set up custom filament in the slicer. Though a bit obtuse, the process is not too complicated.

Every time I configure the AMS in Bambu Studio, it will show up correctly before quickly disappearing. This makes it impossible to ensure the filament has the correct pressure advanced settings.

While doing random test, I did get a custom filament to sync to printer where I could select it in the AMS menu on the printer itself, but that has only occurred one time.

I can’t tell if what seems to be lacking is instructions on how to sync that custom filament to the AMS, user error, or just poor UI design, but is there a way to do this?

All of this is on the X1C

I am on a X1C. I should have made that more clear.

That should indeed work. Did you update both the printer and Bambu studio to the latest firmware?
I have just checked and could set a custom filament.
If that does not do the trick, you should probably sign out of the printer and log in again.

I’m having a similar issue which was discussed on this thread.

I ran into a similar issue, but with a twist. I have the custom filament defined and i set it via the printer, but then after a while it disappears. Same happens via bambu studio as well.

here is a video with the problem youtu.be[slash]aneZpqvmwVg

Same here. It is not possible to set any custom filament in the AMS via Bambu Studio. Most recent Firmware and Software of course. Generic filaments work. All custom ones are set and then reset after about 5 seconds

It works once you have done a flow dynamics calibration for that filament:

No, it does not. the filament is removed from AMS after at most 4 seconds. And, on my printer, I never saw any filaments beside the build´tin ones. How on earth did you get FormFutura in there?

Telling me it does not work, then asking me how I got it to work, nice.

Thanks again for the pointer. But it simply does not work with the procedure described there. As for some people commenting on the linked post, it also did not work, and seemingly nobody knows how to debug or why it works or doesn’t. Maybe I have to look at the log files from the printer, I have the impression it is the printer that refuses the filament data.

By any chance are you at the latest firmware?

Yes. An update arrived yesterday and I applied it.

I found that with Bambu Studio and the Printer updated to the latest firmware, you can add custom filaments to the AMS but it is finicky. Seems to take a bit of time for the AMS to even “see” the custom filament.

It also regularly loses the K value and has to be manually reselected.

Using old Bambu RFID tags for non-Bambu filaments.

  • I hadn’t thrown out the cardboard spools from my Bambu PLA filament. I took those and taped them to the sides of the non/Bambu filaments.
  • In my case the Bambu PLA filament parameters work well with the non-Bambu filament.
  • I am sure there are many other possibilities using this hack, like dialing in filament specific settings.

Now I shall rant: I HATE, HATE, HATE using workarounds when essential functionality is overlooked or in this case disabled.

To bump this back up, STILL the same issue 3 months later (newest firmware on brand new X1, latest BambuStudio and/or OrcaSlicer).

The fix above, just like the OP said, doesn’t work for me either. Even after flow calibration, the dropdown in Devices and the AMS section there will NEVER have my custom filament in the dropdown (ONLY the default ones).

This makes it impossible to know if my temp override (saved as a custom filament) is making it’s way over to the AMS… and if the print will print at that new higher temp (changed 55 to 60ºC). Also, if you’re printing from Device/Slice where you CAN select your custom filament, there is NO mention of the changed K: 0.020 there… (hope that makes sense

try rebinding your printer:

worked for me!

Use Bambu Handy to select custom filament worked for me.

I had the same problem, no custom filament profile appeared in the menu at the printer (X1C). I tried to set it in BambuStudio or Bambu Handy, but it disappeared after a few seconds. When I tried to sync via the printer, it showed the following message: “Failed to obtain cloud custom material information”.
And here is my solution:
I disconnected the printer from my account and then reconnected it - and then I had all my custom filament profiles available!
